just been chatting to a young lad on msn and he said he was in the army i dint think much of it seen as hes only 18
then he went on to say he aint had sleep in 3 days because hes been working all the time
then he told me how hes on 48 hour call to afganastan if he gets a call he goes
im shocked at this hes 18 YEARS OLD he also told me that he see 2 of his mates blown up infront of him
im almost in tears talking to him it sickens me how can they put lads of his age into that situation it really aint right
i no he went into the army himself but still it has made me think twice about telling anyone to join the army it really has

My best mate is in the army (he's 22) and he's been all over the place, he's in Afghan at the minute.

I worry about him all the time and I wish he wouldnt put himself through it. I know someone has to do it but his mum is in pieces all the time waiting for the worst to happen. He loves his job though :?

My younger brother has just joined the army as well- he's only 18

im telling everyone i no not to join the army now i no some people have to do it but they should take a look at there rules for ages and things for going to them places

Bascially there are no age limits on active duty - if your old enough to join your old enough to fight.

Its a very emotive subject as some are for and some against, and I know of atleast one member whos partner is in the army, so Ill refrain from stating my true opinions on the subject :shhh:

my cosin is in the paratroopers i dont want to upset anyone by what ive said im not out to do that just thought id post it as it brought a tear to my eye it really did

my husband is in the army, he went out to Iraq at 17 years old but got sent back after 3 weeks as he was under 18, they waited for him to be 18 and sent him back out there, i dread to think what would have happened if anything happened to him the 1st time he was out there, i used to jump everytime the phone rang, theres a lot of stuff he saw out there & certain things he done that made him physically sick (not going in to it as dont want to upset anyone or want him to get judged) but he wouldnt be here if he hadnt done some things he had to do & im very proud of him.

a couple of close family members of mine are in the army and its difficult not to worry about them, but, they both state that they wouldnt of joined if they were worried about going to war, dangerous areas, after all thats their job.

One thing that is really bad about the forces tho, is the lack of councelling when you leave.

manda my fiance is in the army and has been to iraq - beleive me its not a nice place but they make it kind of 'homely' for them - believe me its not all doom and gloom there are so many soliders out there they dont have to be on the streets all the time, they may do two or three shifts a day and for the not sleeping for 3 days is bull - they may not get alot of sleep but they HAVE to allow them to sleep even if for a short time otherwise they cannot go out there!!!

they have pizza huts, mcdonalds, shops and everything in their camps - but it is a horrible thought - my fiance was 18 when he went to iraq!

his mate is off out there again in April and my fiance may be going to Afghan soon - another mate has had his passport took off him because they may get called up to Iraq with only 24 hours notice so they are not allowed to leave the country incase this happens - if they do get called up they have to leave whatever they are doing get straight down to camp and get ready to get a flight to Iraq!!

its not a nice thing Manda but they are doing a job - its what they signed up to do and i am VERY proud of my fiance and the rest of the soldiers

Quite the opposite, I find you one of the most diplomatic voices here! But I agree, the subject is emotive, maybe too much so for a reasoned discussion :)

Thanks Minxy, that means a lot that you think that

I would like to say that pride in them is absolutely right, I know I wouldnt have the courage to join up regardless of what my political views are!

sometimes they do go without sleep for a long time and not all of the camps are homely with mcdonalds etc on there, its mainly the American camps that have all that, my bloke got to stay on one whilst he was in Iraq, they had a cinema, swimming pool, fast food places but like i said that doesnt apply to everywhere and everyone!

My OH is in the terriotorial army, the day before I found out I was pregnant he got offered to go on tour in Iraq. Thankfully he got out of it. I hate anything to do with army, it terrifies me, especially now we have our son. Id rather he left it but he'd never ask me to give up something I love so I dont think I can really, although I argue I have given up an awful lot to have our son (although I love him dearly there are days Id kill to be able to do what I want when I want!!)
MEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
