lanna doesnt really nap anymore, cept for 20 minutes after lunch, the thing is by 5pm shes so tired she often doesnt eat her dinner, i give her a bath n keep her up till 6 but its getting really frustrating, and with her waking up at 6:30am im exhausted >.< ideas to get her to nap better?

I didnt want to read and run babe... at this stage they try to drop their naps a bit, try to get her to bed later if you can its going to be hard get someone to sit with you for a few evenings while you get her to bed later and the knock on affect should work. thats what i did with mine not sure it will work though every child is different sorry not much help xxx

So she's going bed at 6pm? Then waking up at 6:30am?

Sorry if Im being dim, but whats wrong with that?

theres nothing wrong with her bedtime sleep, im talking about her nap, because shes tired at 5pm and wont eat her dinner.

Thanks gemini, im trying! she woke up at 7:30 today but is super tired, cause in the end she wouldnt goto sleep till 8! Its like she got past her bedtime and went "Fine, you kept me up past my bedtime, now im going ot be awake FOREVER!"

oh bless its hard when they get over tired hey. I used to put Jude in a swing chair that helped (sometimes) and then did the crying down method during the day...

I'd put him down let him cry for 1 minute only...then go in reassure say "little nap" walk out
....let him cry for 2 mins.........then go in reassure him say "little nap" and walk out
and so on (i would never leave a crying child even now but that is just me)

on the first day it could take up to 45 mins and I abandoned it and then tried the next day, I did this about the same time every day in the end he would look tired, Id put him down and he would sleep 45 mins to 1.5 hrs but not much longer and not late inthe day. Does that make sense. Not every day did it work, hes never slept well to be fair during the night either but its worth and try and it did make life easier.

Shes definately getting over tired but honey I would ask the health visitor to come round and have a chat with you about it if its stressing you out....

What I will say is that if you are upset and crying nobody shuts you in a dark room on your own without saying are you ok, it would make things worse so thats what I think about a crying baby and its worse for them as they dont understand, there is that fine line between the sleep training and giving in too much and its individual for each child and parent. Good luck honey xxx x

Thanks gemini, will try that, its worked sometimes in the past, im in the middle east, so no health visitor, im on my own!

is it sunrise waking her at the same time every morning? I got a blackout blind when sunrise started coming earlier LO was waking, it was killing me! 5am starts are no fun, when he goes back to sleep at 7am and Ive then got to go to work :faint:

Blackout blind is now the best thing Ive ever bought for him!!

Hi Titch, the prob is Momma'Kats babys nap during daytime, not sure if you have any tips for her with daytime naps other than what Ive said? Sure anyones suggestions would help her being as shes in the middle east on her own xxx

yes I know, but when LOs get over tired they resist sleep more, so making sure she stays asleep til shes ready to wake in the morning should help. And I use the black out blind for day naps too, it really helps my LO.

Isla was waking at 5am too until I doubled her blind and now she stays asleep a bit longer. I have followed the same routine for months, if she starts getting grumpy she goes to bed. If shes tired she just shoves her fingers in her mouth, and goes to sleep, most times for over an hour. I think I'm lucky to have a baby that naps so easily at home, but out and about she's a nightmare.

I think preserve with trying to get her to nap, put her mobile on, shut the door and walk out.

With Matthew I literally put him in his cot and let him cry himself to sleep during the day, he goes down fine at night!
I know people might think I'm harsh for doing that but if he didn't nap at the moment I think I would be pulling my hair out!

What happens if you put her down for a nap at 5pm Kat? Does she think it's bedtime or will she wake up after 15 mins or so? Lizzie gets tired about 5 as well so usually has a 10 minute kip and it keeps her going till 6:30 bedtime. I tend to go out to do the horse about that time so she falls asleep in the car and wakes up when the car stops - do you drive?

Working on my liscence at the moment! hah.. And she thinks its bedtime, i could give it a go though, thanks
