..in an effort to rid my bambino of the dreaded colic. I had some stilton for lunch the other day and that evening he had the worst colic I have ever seen, the crying was just awful - far worse than Rosie ever was. He didnt stop crying until 11.40pm, was awake all evening too. Since then I havent touched anything dairy at all and for the last two nights he hasnt even had the slightest bit of colic, just a little wind! Maybe its coincidence but Im not going back to it while Im breastfeeding, who knows maybe it will do me some good. I read that we have enormous amounts of COW antibodies in our systems because of the amount of dairy we consume! At least I know I won't be allergic to grass!

When I thought about it I realised just how much dairy I was consuming every day. Milk in cereal, tea and coffee, cheese, yoghurt, Muller rice..its no wonder every baby gets it when it is such a staple in our diets. (thats if it is a cause of course)

Anyone else tried this with similar results?

I haven't tried it, but what a great idea.. I wouldn't have even thought of that  On the other hand, Moooo  xx

I was gonna text you about this the other day, I was pondering the coleif stuff and thought life would be easier if there wasnt too much lactose in the milk to start with instead of using the colief drops. As hes taking it from a bottle I have to leave it half an hour, and when hes screaming half an hour feels like a very long time! Glad to hear it works, I think Im gonna have to do this too. Im lactose intollerant myself and completely eliminated dairy a few years ago so if you need any tips on replacements for recipes let me know!

Thanks Tiny! I have been wondering if there is anything left I can eat, dairy seems to be in everything! Going to a bigger Tesco tomorrow to get cheese alternative etc, I did see some UHT milk that had added enzyme, thought that might be worth a shot but then decided to eliminate totally. Congratulations on your bf'ding by the way!! xx

there is 'lactofree' range which does yoghurts etc... but if youre cutting out altogether, tesco do their own soya milk which I find really nice. Ive heard those vegan cheeses are rank but not tired them myself!

Thanks! We just had another go at BFing and he was furious at me for making him try  hes just finishing a bottle with daddy!

Weird you should say that RM, quit dairy just over a week ago and Cahal is now much happier after his feeds. His dad is lactose intolerant and gets the most awful stomach cramps, and my poor boy was sometimes practically doubled over in pain after a feed. He does still get very windy but I've found Infacol helps him bring the rest up. I don't miss dairy as I didn't eat a great deal to begin with, but I do miss cheese the most. Don't bother with the lactofree cheese range, it's nasty!! Just made me want real cheese even more!!

I hope it works well for you as it has for me, all I need to do now is work on Cahal's habit of gulping down air....any ideas?!

Dairy seems to be the one thing that I have had to cut down on since having Toby as he doesn't give me chance!! I have switched to decaff tea and coffee which is supposed to help... Hope the improvement continues RM :dust:

I had to cut ALL dairy out off Buttons diet recently.

She was fine with my breast milk, but then that went, so had to go on to formula, she didn't tolerate it well at all. We swapped to a lactose free formula and she was a different baby.

Once she started on solid foods, she started getting horrendous diarrhoea. She'd poop 10 to 12 times a day .. if you could call it poop. It was just yellow water. She got an absolutely horrid nappy rash/yeast infection, she stopped sleeping thru the night. This went on for 4 months. After numerous Drs visits, poop smears and such, they suggested dairy free. So we went that route .. with in 3 days the rash was gone, she went down from 10/12 poops a day to 1 solid proper little poop package and she slept thru the night again. She also has put on 2lbs since then!

We've had to be extreme in removing dairy tho as shes allergic to the milk protein rather than just the lactose, extreme as in reading every ingredient on labels .. it's not just the obvious items .. milk, yoghurt etc .. dairy is hidden under many different names, (for example, sandwich meat .. if it has 'caramel colour' on it .. thats milk! Grr) and if she has a product with any kind of dairy in it all all, she gets the runs and that horrid rash back with in hours :( Strangely enough she's fine with eggs, just any cows milk product. For the most part I just make all meals from scratch .. its so much easier than standing in the supermarket reading labels for hours. A good website I found is godairyfree.com

I'm hoping its something she grows out off.

When it comes time to start little mans solid foods, I'd keep a diary of what you give him and list any symptoms, more so when you start introducing yoghurt and such .. I never linked it .. I wish I'd had kept one to start with, because once it was on paper, it was so obvious what the problem was!

Good luck!

Well to date - NO COLIC! Its wonderful to think that the switch has helped him so much, I have quit chocolate too! I did a test and had a piece of choc cake the other night at mum's - it had 70% cocoa chocolate melted on the top - that night he screamed and screamed so I knew it was the choc that did it! Soya milk is surprisingly good in tea and coffee Im finding although I am missing cheese! I guess it will help the weight to shift too :)

Cottage cheese use to do it with Hebe. Glad you've got a solution that seems to work :D

:yay: good to hear it!!! Sorry about the choc! there is some dairy free chocolate. They do dairy free chocolate buttons in tesco, but you have to take out a small mortgage to buy anything of any significance! if you get desparate, its good to know its out there!

I think I may have to follow you RM... Not that I manage that much but infacol isn't doing much so am guessing the other medicines won't either...

I think that the chocolate thing is the cocoa and not the dairy in it, although the dairy would contribute! I buy the dairy free buttons for Rosie, they seem to be nicer I think than Cadburys - not so sweet.

Rowesb I can;t believe what a difference no dairy has made, I wish I had realised this when I had Rosie, her screaming almost had us both despairing!
