Hiya well I have my first session tomorrow initially for insomnia and also now for anxiety.

I was going to get this private for 300-500 quid for my sleeping then i found out i was pregnant and thought of how much my body/mind will change so didnt think i could warrant the spend, so didnt then just a few weeks on got severe anxiety along with my sleep so when i saw the doc just a couple weeks ago they referred my ASAP!

I hear its similar treatment that people who quit smoking go through, sometimes you go into a deep trance :o

Im soooooooo nervous which is funny because im going because of feeling this way lol!!

wish me luck!

xxxx

Good luck! I've done some cbt and found it helpful. You're bound to be nervous but it'll worth it. You're unlikely to go into a trance though its more about changing your thought patterns and therefore changing tour behaviour. Hope it goes well

Thanks thats nice to know as when I was going to book it they explained a trance and said something about while you are under you reveal things u wouldnt normaly sayxxx

Oh really that's weird hun, the cbt I've done was more a practical therapy. I know quite a few people who have done it and they didn't go under or anything. Unless its mixed with hypnotherapy?

mm.. this is odd lol. My one at the private clinic involved me going under, so much so on the phone and in email they were stresssing how professional the people were there not to take advantage or anything anything you may say and it stayed behind closed doors (sounded abit OTT). Maybe this one through the NHS being at a different clinic etc is different and I perhaps wont go under. They have only sent me a letter with an appointment time not with the details of whats happening. very intrigued now.xxx what actually happened during your experience, all i know is they told me its going to be an hour? xxx

I had 50 minute appointments. It was mainly talking about my life in the present although the psychiatrist was aware of my past. I remember he gave me a sheet with the headings 'thoughts, feelings and behaviours' I had to fill that out at home when stuff came up. Mine was more for self harm.

I was in and out of therapy for 11 years. And have had lots of different kinds. Then I did a 3 full day intensive outpatient therapy in a therapeutic community and to cut a long story short turned my life around.
As far as I was aware, cbt is a talking therapy. Will be really interested to hear how you got on so let me know hun

wow thats brilliant how much it helped you congrats on that.:)

yeah will defo update as at the moment me and doctors cannot pinpoint a cause, they have just established that my anxiety is being left behind because of my insomnia getting better and leaving that there. I cant cope well with certain stresses in life lately like the 'average' person but in the last couple of months have got engaged then found out we was pregnant and moving house etc But I spose with all due respects GP's arent fully trained in that area - so will be really intresting. Thankyou for letting me know what to expect.

I had cbt and it wasn't really a trance thing either. Its more of what pinky said. I didn't really give it a chance tbh so it didn't work for me. So if at first you don't like it, stick at it like I should have lol. Mine was for anxiety also. I'm in waiting to speak to someone just now about my anxiety, think I'm getting medication as this pregnancy has made my anxiety really bad. Hope it goes well for you xxx

Thankyou. are you going to give it another chance do you think or have meds? Ive been on meds before but they are reluctant to prescribe now as am i to take so will try anythingxxx

I was under CBT for nearly 3 years and I really enjoyed the thought changing process.

It will be interesting to hear how you get on with yours, as I've never heard of going into a trance before.

Lol I think then that clinic I was looking into must have been hypnotherapy crossed with this treatment very odd.i do hope there is none of this trance business then as u ladies r calming me down by saying there isnt thankyou :-)xx

Hiya

I have had CBT before and there definitely wasn't any trances involved! Just lots of talking :)

Good luck with your appt, I'm sure it will be fine xx

Hey Ladies, thank god i found this lol! I aint going mad! This is what I was originally going to do at a private clinic near me-- this seems to be called curative therapy?! this is an email when i was in talks with the clinic, sounds really intresting doesnt it - presumed it would be the same procedure through NHS but seems like it wont be; xxxx

Dear Lucy

Deborah passed your email to me as she is otherwise engaged for the next few months. To treat your problem it is very important that we find the root cause of the insomnia and deal with that root cause. What we have discovered form our work over the years is that if this root cause is merely suppressed rather than treated directly then the treatment will only be effective in the short term and any improvement will break down in the longer term, taking you back to square one. Although we are dealing with the root cause of the problem please be aware you will not need to reveal any details to your therapist during the hypnosis for this to be achieved, the process is entirely internal. Dealing with the root cause will lead to a complete resolution of your insomnia over around 5 sessions, the cost of each session being £50, you should begin to notice improvement after 2-3 sessions. Our success rate for insomnia is 95% based on a review of our treatment over the first half of 2010.

Some information about curative hypnotherapy which may be of interest to you:

Hypnotherapy is a state of deep relaxation which will feel very natural and pleasant for you. There are two common misconceptions about the hypnosis. The first stems from what is seen of hypnosis on stage/TV where there is the appearance of a loss of control. This is a magic trick loosely based on hypnosis. In our therapy sessions there is no loss of control, you will be able to choose to come out of hypnosis at any stage and you will be fully in control at all times. The second misconception is that the patient will need to reveal thoughts and memories that they do not wish to reveal during hypnosis. At the Curative Hypnotherapy Clinic we practice a form of therapy called ‘Content free hypnotherapy’ where, although memories and thoughts from the past will often come to the surface, only the patient will become aware of them. This then leads to a change in perception of those thoughts and memories which then through further therapy leads to a resolution of the problem. The therapist does not need to become aware of those thoughts and memories for the treatment to be effective.

I hope this has been helpful, should you require any further assistance please feel free to ask.

If you wish to book an appointment then either contact our Clinic receptionist on the landline below or myself on the mobile number.

Kind Regards

David

Ah that makes more sense I was pretty sure cbt was nothing like hypnotherapy. I'm a bit of a therapy guru and bang on about it far too much haha.
