Hello,

Just wondered if anyone else is doing hypnobirthing, hypnosis for birth or using any visualisation techniques to help them through the birth? I have just finished my hypnosis for birth course and am really looking forward to te experience now, not at all worried, just really keen, athough need to get lots of practice in over the next 12 weeks. I've not really seen it mentioned on here and wondered if anyone else was giving it a whirl.

i used the natal hypnotherapy cd for 6 weeks before the birth of Jared (who is 6 weeks now!) and i found it an absolute godsend :D
The visualisation techniques really helped me. I visualised each contraction as a wave, peaking then crashing... really worked. the only time it fell apart was when i started pushing :rotfl: but then it was just about all over anyway!
Only had gas and air for the last 2 hours or so.

Good Luck!

I was thinking of getting a hypnobirthing cd from Amazon.... I think its one that I can just listen to at home on my own.
Did u find your course good? I am willing to try anything really :)

I got a trial cd free with a magazine, and love the idea of it, but i just couldn't relax deep enough. Maybe you could teach us the techniques on the forum!!!!

I looked into it but tbh there isn't really anyone round here to go see about it. And I am not keen to do a book/CD course as I prefer an in person thing with this sort of technique.

I'm comfortable with my breathing exercises and so on.

My MW said she knows a few homebirth women who opted for hypnobirthing and most managed fine. She wasn't sure it made any huge difference toward the end when pushing, but she said she felt the women had a positive eperience using it.

Me me!! I am hypnobirthing!

I did a two day course inDecember with the Marie Mongan method. http://www.hypnobirthing.co.uk/ We just had our refresher course this week to check we were on track.

It was a fantastic experience, I have gone from being really really worried and wanting all pain relief, to being unbelievable calm and keen for a natural birth!! I am so chilled about the whole thing. I think the course is worth it even if I end up having a horrendous labour, because I have been so relaxed in the run up!

I read some birthing affirmations almost everyday and listen to a Rainbow Relaxation on my ipod. This makes me relax and visualise my body birthing naturally and easily.
My hubby does some deepening and relaxation exercises with me a few times a week, the idea is he can do these whilst I am in labour to help increase my relaxation.
We also do daily perrineal massage (it is much better now, started off uncomfortable) as this is integral to the hypnobirthing.

I feel my OH is really involved in my pregnancy and labour, I am glad we went ahead with it.
