Hi

I've just booked myself on a course for this finishing 4 ish weeks before my due date. I'm half way through the book that goes with the course, and have also read a similar book.

Everything is so positive that I have read but all associated with the course so it's going to be! I feel excited about it but would just like to hear if any ladies in here have also done the course and have had a positive birthing experience.

I'd love to hear opinions from mums who have completed the course.

I've booked myself in the course through the hospital as well just so I know all the options available to me...... I'm not yet that confident but hopefully will be!!!

Thank you
Lyns

I fancy doing something like this, def think the mind is a powerful thing so if you can put yourself into a relaxed and controlled state of mind it's got to help.

I'm really interested in doing this too, the only problem I have where I live is that the lady who runs the course in our area has just had a baby and is on maternity leave for 9 months!!!!!!:wall2:
What book have you read and does it have a cd too? Have loked on Amazon for one but there are a few around so wasn't sure which was best

Hiya

If u look on amazon for hypnobirthing the mongan method, and get the us version that comes with a cd, the uk one doesn't.

I agree the mind is powerful, I really am looking forward to it and I've always been frightened so it's positive already.

Shame your lady is not available, u may find others if u can go a little further a field, there's several in my area but I've struggled with dates as my partner is overseas so timing has been difficult, hope you can sort something. Worth looking round tho as prices vary a lot!!

I'd love to hear if any one has completed and had a positive birth

A friend of mine did the Hypnobirthing course about 3 years ago and when she told me about it I brushed it off as something 'hippy'...she is at one with the earth etc.
Anyway, when she told me about the birth itself, I was truly amazed! She said that the midwife was chatting away to her and the only signal she gave to let the MW know she was having a 'surge' was closing her eyes. She was that relaxed that the midwife couldn't tell. She told be about breathing the baby down rather than pushing and stressed how much she and her hubby thoroughly enjoyed the labour/birth.
It is because of this friend that I knew I too wanted to try it. I have my final session tomorrow and have read the text book "Hypnobirthing: The Mongan Method' from cover to cover. This book comes with a CD in the back, however, if you do the course, you get another CD with 'Affirmations' and the 'Rainbow Relaxation' plus a course book with 'Deepening scripts' for your partner to read to you. Although just buying the text book will help, the course definitely gives you that bit extra. The text book often refers to the deepening script and the rainbow relaxation that the course practitioner will give you - but I'm sure they will be online anyway.
I know, I haven't experienced birth yet, but I hope this helps with which text book and cds to get!

Good luck xxxxx

I loved it! Best thing i've ever done in my life ever ever amen!

I'm on my phone so can't post the link but on the birth stories section, mine is Blake Daniel Ray 21/11/10 - hypnobirthing.

It's long, but my labour was. My HB woman uses me as an example of 'special circumstances' but I don't like that because I really dont feel like I was (even though I really was!).

Hypnobirthing made me enjoy my contractions! The power of the mind is truly amazing.

Good luck!

Ah there great stories to hear. Thank you. I'm excited to get going with the course, and feel really positive about it.

Can't wait!

Thanks again
Xx

Glad I found this thread because I'm planning on doing HB! I had no idea where to start, though!
Might have to get on over to Amazon...

I like the idea too. I've just looked for a course in London and the ones I found are around £300 for 2 10-5pm sessions. I don't think i can afford that though :( does anyone know of anything a bit cheaper?

It will be the best £300 you ever spend. If you're planning on more than one child you'll use it again. I have a very stressful job and it helped with that too! (and my husband!).

One thing I would say is that 2 7 hour sessions would be really really tough on the mind. Ours were 4 hour sessions and it was tough. Especially being pregnant and knackered.

All the courses I looked at before deciding on one were over 4 classes, doing it all in 2 sessions sounds too much. All of them were similar price tho, it is expensive, but I managed to get booked on one slightly cheaper, but like above I think it'll be money really well spent!!

As an example...

I've had really really bad stomach cramps tonight. I've been in lots of pain, nothing worked. Put my rainbow relaxation on, did loads of hypnobirthing breathing and I feel so much better after half an hour.

I also use it at the dentist. Anaesthetic doesn't work on me properly so I take my headphones and listen to HB tracks and do my breathing to get through the pain. My dentist was so impressed the first time I did it that he's got involved with some research into self hypnosis for pain relief. He said he had never seen anything like it before.
