Hi everybody,
We’ve been TTC baby no.2 (myself and husbands) for a year now. We have together a 5 year old and we both have 2 13 year olds from previous relationship.

We fell with our son first month of trying, I can’t really vouch for my first son as he wasn’t planned. His daughter took a year. Unknown to what issue or no issue.

He had his results back from his sperm test yesterday and it was classed as low.
15 million per m/l
And 28% and 20% in the mortality and morph.

So I’ve been googling the hell outta this one.
Is it really that low? Like low low or kinda we could still get pregnant easily?

Any insight to this would be fab, success stories, problems, how long it took you.
I understand we’re all different but some experience from you guys would be helpful and supportive right now.

I feel a bit everywhere at the moment.
Of course we are beyond lucky to have the 3 we do. I just wanted one more to complete our family.
I seem to now be more determined than ever!!

So we are going to start the wellman conception vitamins and I will take an a-z with folic acid.

Is it zinc and vitamin D that’s the most important for him.

To be honest I feel completely meh right now in life.

Thankyou for reading xxx

Hi Hun
I don’t really have much idea about male fertility but I would suggest a reduction in alcohol if he drinks it, plenty of leafy green veg and a reduction in highly processed foods.
Best of luck with your TtC journey x

Don't know about the other two numbers but morphology looks very good, 3% morphology is the cut off for ivf on the nhs.
Male preconception vitamins will help on all the numbers.
PS it only takes one ;-)

I'm sorry you're having a tough time. In my experience, doctors are quick to write you off as a lost cause as soon as they find any issues with sperm analysis so I felt I should share our experience. We were struggling to conceive our first and during the usual tests, OH's sperm results came back as low motility. I agree with tinselcat that the morphology looks very good. I was always under the impression that normal count was from 15 million so I'd have said your OH's count was just within normal range. Progressive motility should be above 32%. My OH also had motility of 28% in his first sample but all other parameters were well within normal ranges. He did a repeat sample about a month later and the results were much the same.

The fertility doctor we saw basically told us that his sperm were useless and there wasn't a hope in hell of us conceiving naturally. IVF was our only option and there was nothing we could do to change it. Obviously I had been doing a lot of reading and felt there were lots of things worth trying first.

Some things we did
- OH doesn't smoke and rarely drinks but if either of those applied then they would have been the first to go
- we made a lot of positive changes to our diets such as more fruit and veg, more meals cooked from scratch, less junk etc
-he made an effort to exercise more as he has a desk job and isn't particularly active
-he also started taking conception vitamins, just Tesco's own in the end as Wellman are a lot more expensive

He did another sperm test more than 3 months later and everything was well within normal ranges. If your OH hasn't done a repeat, it's important that this is done at least 3 months later as that's how long it takes for sperm to be made. The doctors don't tell you this in my experience. He also needed to do a further test several months after that one just as part of the referral processes and that one was all normal too.

We had finally decided to proceed with IVF but didn't go ahead as we have now fallen pregnant naturally. It took us 3 years in total however I also had some issues. Once my issues were sorted and his, we actually caught after about 6 months so that might be a better assessment and of course we can never be sure what was really stopping us as it may have been me all along.

Looking back, I'm so thankful that we were so determined and decided not to listen to the so-called expert. I really hope things work out for you too. I wanted to share as I found it hard to find success stories when we were faced with a very similar situation. Good luck!

We went for all the tests in April, DH has a sperm count of 10m/1ml due to an enlarged vein in his scrotum. I'm at the hospital right now waiting for him to get out of surgery. Our doc said 15m/1ml is normal.

Best of luck to you xxx

I think you should see a doc to discuss the results x
