Harley is scratching him self so bad now. i put scratch mittens on him at nigth even though im sure they are only intended for newborns.
but he bites them of.

his face looks awfull and so sore.
his pillow has blood on it he scratches so hard.
iv bit his nails down short but the tiny bit thats there he will dig right into his pretty lil face :( and are always bleeding

any sugestions?
there are some pics, you cant see all the lil scabs on his forehead but there are loads :(

Aww hun
Jack was exactly the same and it looks terrible doest it, the only thing i found was putting his mitts on under his sleepsuit so the cuff sort off trapped them.

I also filed his nails once after i had cut them, maybe thats something you could try if he will keep still long enough

At least they seem to grow out of it

has he got patches any where else ?
it could be exzema,
Ewan had really sore areas at that age but only on his arms.
Doctor gave me aveeno bath oil as johnsons stuff made it even worse.

no he dont have patches any were else but he does have dry skin on his face which looks lke exma, maybe thats why he scratchs so much. he hates scratch mittens though, hes just found his hands and talks to them all day and sucks them.

Jack had real dry skin just on his face too
Ican't use any 'products' on his face now
if you go to docs they will prob give you some Oilatum cream or something, i raely use it on Jack now as it cleared up really quick
I supose it is worth a try hun

sophie used to do that on her belly hun, everytime i took her clothes off i took her to the docs and he give me some cream and some stuff to put in the bath, and it worked a treat, sorry i cant remeber name

hope u get it sorted hun

so do you's think hes doing it because his face is hurting and itching? or just becae hes got no control over his hands?

hes a silly sassauge

hes a cute cute silly sausage :D

i reckon he is itching i think u should pop him to docs hun

cheers hun... getting him weighed tomorrow so il see HV

Dionne,

Katie also used to do this when she was younger, I took her to the doctors and I turned out that she has a build up of wax in her ears which was aggrivated when she had a bath on a night and when she was scratching she was trying to scratch her ears. She used to have cuts all over her face poor little thing. How a three month old baby gets too much wax I will never know........ thought it was what old people got.

She also suffers from ezcema as well as scratches that so it could be worth a trip to the doctors.

I try to cut her finger nails when she is asleep to keep them nice and short as she also likes to nip me  .

em xxxx

Oh bless him....what a silly sausage as you say!!

hi dionne,

this isnt a long term solution but as an alternative to scratch mits you could try the sleepsuits with fold over mitts. I bought some from Matalan the other week, (without realizing, they look like normal sleepsuits and dont say on the packet that they have these)

bought mine in newborn but they may do these on the bigger sized ones too?

ahh thats a good idea i no the ones you mean il defo have to get some, then he cant et them off.

cheers babe

Also in the mean time you could try putting socks on his hands. Sounds daft i know but it worked wonders for my. Aimee had terrible eczema when she was younger and as you say scratch mits are no use so i just used socks and she couldn't get them off.

hehehe yh the lil silly billy has socks on his hands now. bit thick ones they are still on now he hates them all his hands sweat but its better then him hurting himself.

his face looks so sore so i dont want to put his e45 on him incase it stings the open cut?

you could try a balaclava  i'd suggest getting some of the sleepsuits with mits in them, abi used to have them :)

dionne there is a baby at nursery who scratches really bad like that because his skin is dry and sore on his face, we put socks on his hands and started putting vaseline on his face and within a week it all cleared up! If that fails try aqeuous cream its for excema and sore dry skin. Id try vaseline first has worked like magic with quite a few children in the nursery with the same problem.

Hope this helps

Hi

aww poor little guy its so hard ot stop them too mits never worked on Kiara, hope you find somthing that works hun
Katrina

aw hun i really feel for you as alex has excema and had awful patches round his neck (front and back) and all over his tum. you should have seen alex in the bath with socks on his hands - now that looks daft

we tried everything, - we had stuff we bought, stuff we had prescribed - everything. its just trial and error really till you find what works best.

in the end we were prescribed Eumovate ointment to clear up any outbreaks (you can only use for a max of five days in a row) and Cetraben emollient cream to use daily to keep it at bay.

the Eumovtae is amazing - within a day his really sore patches were as clear as the day he was born - they hadnt been like that for a few months. now he has lovely skin, rarely scratches and we only have odd break outs that clear up as son as we put some eumovate on them.

sorry i have gone on a bit now! if what the hv recommends doesnt work in a week - go to docs - you might just have to keep trying!
