Just a curious question for any of you who've had an HSG. I had one last week. Heard loads of horror stories about them prepared myself for the absolute worst and actually it wasn't too bad all things considered. The staff were really lovely and let me watch the screen while the dye was going through.

When they first put the dye in, all I could see on the screen was a rather sad looking blob where it had filled the uterus but didn't go anywhere else. They then set up again and flushed more dye and I could see both tubes flushing perfectly.

I'm just interested if that happened for other people as I'd expected the first flush to be like the second one if that makes sense. I guess I'm clinging on to the hope that my tubes just needed a good clear out and it might actually help us. Any thoughts?

Mine was quite a while ago and I didn't have a screen to watch so no idea sorry :(

There is always a chance that they did just need clearing a little xx

Thanks for replying. I made a point of asking to see even if I ended up with a sore neck from twisting haha. It was the fact they basically had to do the procedure twice and I got the impression they used a lot more dye the second time. Of course it might have just been one of those things but I just can't help but hope it was a good thing.

I think after our bad experience with the fertility doctor, I'm just determined to prove her wrong!! Also I've had to fight so hard for these tests on the NHS that I just want them to be worth it.

I had one done in January neither of my tubes were blocked and the dye flowed through but they still pushed a second lot through and a lot more of it, I'm a nurse at the hospital I had the procedure done if so know some of the staff and I asked why they had to push the second log through and they did say some women do have a little blockage and pushing the dye through until it flows clears that blockage and does help with getting pregnant especially if that's what was causing the issue

Thanks for replying. That was roughly my line of thinking but I'm just trying not to build my hopes up!! Good to hear that's what they told you.
