Hi

Went to my docs last monday (14th) and she was referring me to midwife. How long does it usually take between seeing doc and seeing midwife? Still no word of an apppointment through. And when i go to see midwife for first time what does that usually entail as i have read of some mixed experiences on here.

CG:wave:

I have to wait 3 weeks! It was going to be 4!!!

I think the midwife tends to see you at 8 weeks.

Well in my area , we book the midwife ourselves, and cannot see her till at least 10 weeks plus

I am seeing mine tomorow , at 10 weeks plus 1 day

She will fill out a large form, which becomes your pregnancy notes, (which you then are supposed to carry around with you all the time , well more nearer the end or if traveling) she will ask family background, historys of twins in family, all about your current health, they will weigh you, so they know later how much you put on in pregnancy.

She will dicuss your choise of care, eg midwife only or consultant via hospital and this will depend on your history , health and local options.

They take a few small tubes of blood to test various things, including a full blood count to check blood over, iron levels, find out if you have any antibodies , and tell what blood group you are etc (doesn't hurt)

They will give you loads of bumph to take away, so take a bag or carrier bag to carry it home
She will prob talk to you about nutruition and what foods you shouldn't eat in pregnancy etc

It's a good opertunity to ask questions for you as it could take upto 1 hour long, so have a think of things you would like to ask and make a note of them.

Enjoy it, it makes it really seem more real, like the actual process has started ....

Yep, as JJ said. I couldn't have mine until 10 weeks. I found it extremely useful and reassuring. It was a good 2 hour appointment with the chance to ask any questions I had.

Thanks to you both, sounds harmless enough. Guess it will start to sink in then.

It depends where u live,I'm seeing my mw next Monday (9 weeks) but haven't had to see a doctor. Was given the mw number by the gp receptionist xx

i seen my on monday at 8 weeks very reassuring as the gilrs have said. xx

I have to wait till I'm 12 weeks, possibly due to too many people. It's vey frustrating, I want to see someone sooner, and am majorly desperate for the scan, which isn't till 13 weeks :( &
Just want to make sure everything's ok.

I phoned my GP earlier this week because I was told to expect to get an appointment with midwife at 8 weeks and I had not heard anything. They then informed me I was misinformed and it will be between 12-14 weeks!!!

That seems a very long time, I can only assume I will get a scan before seeing her. They said a pack would be coming in the post.

This is a big change to 12yrs ago when I was seen every 4 weeks from 8weeks gone. I use to see the doc and midwife at the same time and felt really well looked after. The midwife only started coming out to see me at home in the last 2 months, as I was having another home birth.

My how things change

I feel really let down especially as Im older (36) and rhesus neg. They should be looking at taking bloods soon surely?!?

im seeing mine for first time at 10 weeks +4 cant wait as ive known for a while that I am preg n it seems to be going sooo slow x

That's the way i'm feeling bidsy. Will feel more reassured when i see midwife. Seems to be differing times for different people. Heard some folk say they have had a scan at 6 weeks and i haven't even seen my midwife.

At this rate i'd be aswell going in and seeing my next door neighbour who's a midwife :)
