How often?

Hi!

My lo is 11 weeks old on Tuesday and is feeding 2 hourly during the day, goes one stretch of 4 hours in the night and then back to two hourly. My hv says this is too often and he's just 'snacking' and I need to stretch out the feeds a little so he can get used to having an emptier tummy. I know all babies are different but please can you let me know your feeding patterns and age of lo? When he's screaming for a feed it's hard to do anything other than feed him...

I'd say your health visitor is talking rubbish!

If he's crying for food then feed him. It'll gradually stretch itself out more in the day and the same at night.

How long does he feed for?

At that age Harry was still feeding 2 hourly xx

My LO is 17 weeks and still usually feeding 2 hourly. Shes at the age now that we can distract her a while if she is crying for food but not for long! If your baby is hungry then feed him xx

At that age C fed 2 hourly day and night Hun. I fed on demand and eventually he spaced his feeds out.

I am constantly surprised by HVs advice as current guidelines recommend that we feed on demand!! Xx

Thanks ladies that's what I thought! He's only feeding for around 5-10 minutes a side and if he fusses instead of feeding then I take him off, if he's hungry then he's hungry. If I'm hungry I eat! xxx

Dont watch the clock, feed him if he is hungry hun. Dont listen to HV. All babies are different

Demand feeding is very important, but sometimes there is a concern that if its a short feed all the time LO isn't getting enough of the fatty hind milk they need.

Obviously some babies are very efficient feeders so do feed very quickly.

Has he ever fed long or is giving up after the easy let down?? Xxx

He's never fed for long, apart from when he was newborn (for the first 4 weeks or so), he has grown so much, no concerns there (probably not only getting the less fatty stuff) and when he's finished feeding I feel empty iykwim xxx
