How often is too often??

This may be a bit of an odd question but can you have too much sex when TTC?!

I've been reading up a lot recently (we've just let nature take its course so far) but it's been 7 months now of nothing whereas I got pregnant with my son from a previous relationship whilst on the pill so never actually "tried".

I've read that ejaculation every 3-4 days gives best chance of sperm surviving to fertilise the egg??

My partner and I DTD at least once every day - and sometimes multiple times.

Are we scuppering our chances? Sounds so silly having to ask 🙈

I think there's research to say yes it does and other research that says no it doesn't

I think the best advice is every second day. Do you test ovulation? We never did and the first month I monitored my ovulation I got pregnant xx

It isn't a problem as long as your partner doesn't have a problem with his sperm quality. We also dtd a lot, my husbands sperm tests all came back fine, our problem is me. It is totally normal for it to take up to a year as depending on your age there is about 15-20% chance each month.

There's definitely mixed thoughts on this, lots suggest every other day but personally we DTD every day and sometimes twice a day during my FW x

I agree with this.

My husband's tests have also always come back good - the problem is with me. Ideally, they say every other day is best to build up the best sperm but this shouldn't matter if he has no issues. My clinic always recommend 2 to 3 days' abstinence before he has to provide a sample for treatment, suggesting you get the best sperm that way, but I think you will get pregnant anyway if there are no issues. xx

Our consultant told us that it is not possible to have too much sex when trying to conceive and we were dtd at least twice a day when we got our bfp xx

I got told off for waking hubby up with sex lol he liked it at first but then he wasn't getting enough sleep so I got barred lmao. Him.telling me no is too sexy though he's shot himself in the foot lol

Haha thankyou for all the replies - my OH would happily have us DTD about 5 times a day but I can't keep up with him (despite me being 26 and him 51!) He wants us to go to the Drs to check his sperm as he's worrying his age and a previous injury may be the problem so far. So will have to wait and see
