Hi all

I know they all differ but...
How long do you usually stay in after you've had your first baby? some people have said the same day. I have no problems with hospitals at all and feel that i would as least like to stay the night other wise i would feel like i was just being chucked out wihtout any help and support.
Do i have the choice?

I know people have said that il feel differently after the birth and just want to go home but looking at it now i really would lie that over night support and people being only a shout away. i also want to breastfeed so would like help in that area as well.

Thanks,
Hope your all well x x

my best friend's due in less than a month now & she went for a tour round the hospital, she told me they told her if all goes to plan you're out within 6 hours of giving birth, in a worse case scenario (c-section) you're in for three days. but it might be different all over the place.

i was back home in less than 6 hours after giving birth to my first :)

in my hospital you can pick i think, either 6hrs, 12hrs or something else i cant remember now, i guess you have to pick one of those before you go in or shortly after or something, im not sure how it works cos its months away so i didnt really pay much attention to it

i think i would rather be in and out though, i dont know, i dont mind hospitals either but i think i would rather be at home with the baby and my fiance and be able to chill, i might freak out once i get home like and not have a clue what to do haha so your idea sounds like a sensible one but you never know, you might really just want to go home

Hi,

I went into hospital on the wednesday night with strong contractions and they told me that the baby would be born the next morning - but NO! I stayed in all day Thursday drugged up to the eyeballs (which felt great and "took away" the pain) and they said I would have her that night - but NO! I eventually had her at 9.36 on the Friday morning!!

I stayed in after having her for one night (just because I was exhausted) and went home on the Saturday afternoon - absolutely elated!!! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

It sounds like a long time to be in but it went really quickly and in a funny way, I enjoyed every minute!!

This time around I am going to request to stay in one whole night after the birth beacuse I know I will get more rest in hospital than at home (my little girl will be 2 and half when this baby is born - she will need to have all my attention). I want to feel human-like when I get home!

With my first i went in on Tuesday, had him on Wednesday and came home on the Saturday!
With my second I came home after 6 hours and have always always regretted it! With my 3rd i stayed in one night and if they dare try tell me to go home before I get my one night there will be trouble lol! I will strap myself to the bed lmao!

same here,
with my first it was 2 nights then second 7 hours but after that i insisted i stayed in at least one night for a bit of a rest, im booking a fortnight this time :rotfl:

I think it depends on your hospital and the time of day you have your baby. I know that my local hospital won't send you home until they've shown you how to bath the baby, I've had a shower and some rest and the baby has been properly checked over etc etc. Hopefully that will take me overnight because it's my first and don't want to feel like I've just been thrown out on the street a few hours after giving birth.

I had to stay in for 3 days with both my previous babies as they were born with GBS infections, I really dont want to stay in this time!!!! I cant see the hospital sending you home if you arent ready though.

i don't mind staying for one night, but with my first I was in there a total of 3 weeks, 1 week before the birth due to slow labour and they wanted to keep an eye on me. Then 2 weeks after the birth because DD had severe jaundice and I had to have blood transfusions due to losing too much.
