As you know Mia was diagnosed with reflux and has been given gaviscon, ranitidine and domperidone. I started the gaviscon on wed and the other drugs yesterday lunchtime. She fed the best she has in ages and last night took 4oz before bed. However our joy was short lived as she spent until 12 screaming in pain again and then threw up after that I've struggled to get her to have even an oz again. I'm so tired, my oh has been on early shift this week so gets up at 5 am which means I've done all the night feeds. Last night he slept on the sofa. I just wondered if anyone has had these drugs for their lo and how long they took to kick in. paediatrician said they'd take a little while but god I hope they work soon. I'm starting to feel ill, I tried to have an early night last night but that didn't happen cos of her screaming. I wish I liked coffee lol!

Hi hun, my.lo was put on drugs but it never worked for him as he.turned out to have CMA(Cows milk allergy),.they say it can take up.to 2 weeks to work.
Good luck,.if it doesnt work, push for prescription formula

Tapatalking so cant see signatures

What drugs have they prescribed?

I don't really think they ever really worked fully for us tbh. I didn't see a difference in her until she hit about 12 weeks and I couldn't put her on her back until about 15 weeks. The Gaviscon made her sick thicker but I really didn't see a noticeable difference with the ranitidine. We still have sick problems now and she's 5.5 months.

Sorry hun. I hope the meds work soon for you x

Our gaviscon has been working a treat, I'd say it took a couple of days to take effect. We ran out this morning, and she's just been sick for the first time in a fortnight, so clearly it has been working! You can use gripe water at the same time as gaviscon, so I've just given her some and she seems a bit more settled.
I think it's different for every baby though, so just give it a few days if you can xx

I agree Hun, I would go back for some prescription formula. Toby is on Nutramigen 1 and it's been a life changer for him.

Really hope you get some rest and Mia feels better soon xxxx

Thank you, we saw the dr again tonight and he said to give it the weekend and see him on Monday to go from there. I'm at the end of my tether to be honest, I'm exhausted, emotional and just want to enjoy my baby. It's just been a constant struggle and don't feel like I've enjoyed her at all. She's screaming her head off right now, it's driving me crazy and causing me and hubby to snap at each other. I can't believe I spent two years wanting her and I should feel happy but I don't. I love her to bits but this is so so hard :(

oh hun things will work out, have you thought about cranial osteopathy? I swear by them,i took my eldest to one for colic and after a session she was a dif child well worth the money,i took sofia the other day and he gave her a once over x

The health visitor mentioned this the other day. She said to try coleif first as she thought she had colic. It turns out its reflux, well that's what the paediatrician thought anyway but I'm starting to doubt that diagnosis.
Will look into it I think, I'm willing to try anything no matter what the cost! I just want my little girl to be happy, I just feel so sad and helpless that she's so unhappy and in pain when she's awake :( xx

My joshua was given baby gaviscon and it worked instantly :)

I.have taken.lo to.osteopath too, they helped but not turned him into a different.child but he is a severe.case. Push for.formula if it doesnt.improve in a week.
Its really hard, i have been there, but you will find a solution

my friends son has acid reflux and the cranial osteopath helped loads, hes on a prescription formula and takes omeprazole as the others didnt work

I will def look into both things. Will ask about formula on Monday. Depends how things go over the weekend. She's had a fairly good night and only been sick twice but she hasn't really been in her Moses basket so I don't know how he would have been on a 'normal' night. We've been trying to keep her upright during feeding and after which has helped but it seems the gaviscon isn't doing jack and the only feeds she has kept down are when she has the ranitidine and domperidone which she can only have 3/4 times a day. I've just fed her this morning with just gaviscon and she was sick again :( at least she hasn't been screaming in pain which is something. Hubby did night shift to give me a break so I feel a little more human! Xx

yeah my friend said the gaviscon didnt help her baby and it made him rly constipated,is baby gaining weight ok? She may be a sicky baby,as long as shes not in pain bless her x

gaviscon never worked for us. The domperidone and ranitidine took about a month to take effect, which the paeditrician advised us. He was put onto Nutramigen as well which was a life saver.

What's nutramigen?
We weren't told how long it would take to work, paed just said a while!! She was sick again with her meds!! No consistency to when and why really. She wasn't sick when I was breastfeeding just in pain a lot. Sickness started after about 5 days on lactose free formula but not all the time like it seems to be now. She's just on normal cow and gate now but thinking of trying aptimil as its had good reviews on here! I just don't know what to do tbh!!

It's medicated formula for cows milk and soya protein allergy. My lo was like a different child :)

Toby is on Nutramigen formula and it's made a huge difference.

My Mum is a cranial osteopath and she's treated Toby a few times, i'd always recommend it but for Toby it worked for the next day or so but as soon as he had a feed from me he was bad again so I wouldn't necessarily advise that you go for treatment until you know the issue. Perhaps just have one first to see if they can help.

Xxx
