I went to my GP last Monday and filled out a form for a midwife referal. Im 9 weeks today, and so far Ive heard nothing. I was wondering how long you ladies waited for your 1st midwife appointment? I called the surgery on Friday, to be told by a snotty receptionist that it would take up to 2 weeks for them to contact me, but my scan will be due in 3 weeks...

Every trust does things different hun,

Some women will have their booking appointment and 12 week scan on the same day.

Other women have a booking appointment between 8-10 weeks and then a scan.

Some women see a community MW at their GP surgery, some have all their MW appointments at the hospital.

I would ring your GP and ask the receptionist how things work once they refer you!

Best of luck

xxxxxxxxxx

I saw my consultant 2 days after I had my BFP (about 5 weeks) but that was due to previous complications, I saw my MW last week for the first time and also had an early scan last week, I next see my MW at 16 weeks and consultant fortnightly. I think mine would have been pretty much the same (without the consultant visits) so 10-11 weeks for first MW visit and have my NT scan at 13 weeks :) If your MW team is separate to your GPs you could try calling them directly to see what the local procedure is? xxx

Hey hun due to changing doctors I still havent seen a MW. I am going to the doctors today for a registering appointment and hopefully she will get the ball rolling :) but I do not know what will happen

Hey, I know how you feel. I had to change doctors after I found out I was expecting and that was over a week ago, the earliest MW appointment they had was 2 weeks 1 day away so I'm just waiting for that. Have seen a nurse and a doctor about things but obviously they don't really do much. There isn't an earlier date for me to meet with the MW, I never realised you could be so delayed. I'm not sure exactly how far along I am I could be anywhere from 11-14wks now and only got my booking appointment sorted, still haven't even got a scan date!

I went to see gp day after my positive test and got a letter a week later with my first mw appt which is 2weeks today il be 10weeks then, hope u hear something soon it's no fun waiting around to hear from people x

Went to the doctors today and got my midwife app on the 27th of june I will be about 11weeks. Unfortunatly its going to be a ain in the bum as I have to work every otherwed qhich os the only time the midwife is at the doctors. although as far as I am concerned I just over a week away isnt to bad for a MW x

I'm seeing my midwife tomorrow but mine won't see you from about 7 weeks onwards. Xxx

In the public system here in Australia we don't see a midwife until 12 weeks. In the private you just see your Obstetric doctor and don't really see any midwives until the last tri. I'm really lucky my regular GP is an ex OBGYN who's wife wanted him to have more time at home with the kids and no rushing off to emergencies etc. So I don't have to pay $150 a visit but still get the same treatment. I've seen him for my last 4 pregnancies.

The only time I didn't like him was the times when I lost the babies and he didn't give me the answers I wanted. I don't think I would have been happy with any docs then.

I just had to ring the surgery and make an appointment to see the midwife! Didn't need to see a doc for a referral! Seen midwife at 10 weeks then got referred to hospital for a scan and rang to make my appointment for 12 weeks :) I feel sorry for all u ladies that have so much trouble getting appointments :(

Ive given up with the NHS already, its been nearly 2 weeks and Ive hear nothing so I have booked a private scan for 10 weeks. x

I need to find my own!

It's the German way - since I have private health insurance I can choose who i want so i need to start interviewing. I love the idea of interviewing and choosing, so then i can find someone who speaks good English, but the drawn out process of hoping to find the perfect one seems too much like me trying for find a soul mate on a dating site!

It;s a sahme they're taking long to contact you. They know every pregnant women is a ball of paranoia! x

Had my 1st GP appt this morning and they are going to forward my details onto the midwife who will contact me in due course. When I asked how long I would have to wait neither the GP or the receptionist knew lol. Guess I'll have to just sit and wait patiently! :)

I saw the midwife at 5 weeks because the receptionist at the doctor's surgery said I should. When I got there, the midwife said I shouldn't have my first appointment until 8 weeks.

I saw doc at 5 weeks and she make mw appointment at 6 weeks.

BUT my booking in appointment wasn't until 8 weeks.

With Jack I called the Docs at 5 weeks when we found out and the receptionaist puts my details onto their system and I saw my MW at my 10 week booking in app. I called the Docs yesterday with this one and am currently in the system. Hopefully i'll be seen at 10 weeks again and i'm also hoping I get the same MW. There are 2 here so fingers crossed because she was lovely! x

Hey everyone,
I went to the doctors when i was 5 weeks pregnant.
He said he would refer me to st Georges hospital in Tooting for my 1st scan, and that i would get a letter in the post.
5 weeks later i still hadnt recieved a letter, so i called up the hospital and they said they hadnt recieved any referal with my details.
I went back to the doctors, to ask if they had actually sent my referal letter, in which the grumpy receptionist snarled at me for asking her to check, and quite rudely informed me they sent it ages ago it was no longer their problem.
I asked if she could get the doctor to send it again, just to make sure as the hospital hadnt recieved it to which she took my details to pass on to the doctor.
She said she would call me back after speaking to the doctor, which she never did.
Im now 12 weeks pregnant, and still havent recieved any notification of any appointment for my baby scan.
Im getting a bit worried, as i had informed my doctor that etopic pregnancy, downs syndrome and muscular dysrophy were all problems with woman in my family.
I was hoping for a scan to put my mind at ease that everything would be ok with my baby.
What can i do to get my appointment???

Thanks

I don't have my booking in appt until 3rd of October. By that point I'll be about 11 and a half weeks. No idea when they will do my scan. I don't think they'll be doing it the same day as my booking in. The MW didn't even phone me to tell me about my appointment. I just got an appointment card in the post with a ddate and time.

I saw my GP when I was week 5. At my medical centre, you can see the midwife any time after 6 weeks pregnant. They gave me an appointment with the midwife a week after the earliest time they allow, presumably because it was booked up during my 6th week. So I'll be seeing the midwife week 7.
