i have a changing bag with one of those thermo pockets for the milk, yesterday we went into town and i took a cold bottle of milk  but i guess i should have taken a warm bottle as you can't always guarntee you can warm it up, but how long can you keep formula milk made up warm for?

what do you all do?

thanks in advance.

hi there, I been told by my hv and midwife that once its made up to cool quickly and go in the fridge till you need it or if you want to warm one and take it with you it can only be kept for an hour. Ive been bottle feeding tia from 2 weeks as my milk supply dried up after i was really poorly, and we are out all the time and have never had trouble warming bottles when we are out. I did think about a travel warmer that plugs into the car lighter socket but never got round to buying one  xx

If I take a warm bottle with me I make sure I use it within a couple of hours. If you go into town most restaurants/take-aways will warm a bottle up for you in some hot water though. I havn't got one but you can buy bottle warmers that are battery operated or that you can plug in to your car cigerette lighter.

i make my bottles up in the morning, so when i go out the bottles are normally still warmish, i put them into my Therma bag & take my Thermos baby flask full of boiling water (£9.99 from Boots...its fab!!!)

anyway, i use the 1st bottle about lunchtime, so been out for 2 hrs or so.if at a friends i put the other bottle in their fridge.

not sure about if you're out for longer though  ask the HV to be definate

tbh i dont heat any of finleys bottles, as i found this a problem when i had my 1st child, if your baby only takes their bottle warm and you have nowhere to heat it your gazumped, i give him his cold

in answer to your question though, i read that its bad to keep bottles warmed due to increased bacteria, and that they should be made and cooled as fast as possible and kept in a fridge until needed, and then disposed of within 1hr of removing from the fridge to prevent baby getting gastroenteritis

i might invest in one of those bottle warmers thanks.

princess puddles i thought i read someting about 4 hours for the thermo bags thanks.

good suggestions i'll see how bulky the bottle warmers are. i think i would be a little shy to ask resturants to heat the bottles etc but i guess if you got a screaming baby you'll do anything!! the only thing with that is you'll spend a fortune buying a coffee everytime you go out - although good excuse for a sit down!! :D

just an idea, but why dont you just take freshly boiled water before you go out, it takes ages to cool anyway, so if baby needs a bottle and its too hot you can quickly cool it down under any tap
