How long before I test?

My last period started on 21st August thereabouts. First cycle was approx 30 days and I think last one was too. When would you test out of interest? Know its too early at the mo. Am having a period feeling today but not sore. Strange feeling. Hey, but I see in to everything and get my hopes up so prob is either my period or pre period / oven switching off feeling! lol
