Just curious how long everyone is planning to bf for? I always said I wanted to get to 6 months but love bf max so have just carried on. I would be happy to keeping going until he's a year or when he naturally stops. To be honest he's far to busy to feed much during the day, but I love his early morning feed as he's all sleepy and really cuddles in for a good feed.

I have found people's reactions really interesting when they find out I'm still feeding they are usually impressed but really shocked. I also found it interesting talking to my friend who stopped bf her lo at 4 months, when I asked why she said she didn't know and wishes shed carried on. It seems when babies get passed the newborn phase people expect you to stop. Luckily my oh and family are very pro bf so I guess we'll just keep going :) xxx

6 months.

I stopped with Seren around then, both of us had had enough. I plan to do the same with Bethan...as long as she will take a bottle (failing so far)

Just carry on for as long as you're comfortable with, sod everyone else's opinions x

I have no idea, I'm going week to week at the moment as its so tough expressing.

I would like to get to 6 months though

Hi hun. I really struggled to BF at the beginning because I had supply issues, and still do to some extent. I literally worked my tits off to build my supply enough so that I could EBF Tilly. Took me until she was 8 weeks old before I could drop the top-ups. My first milestone was to reach 4 months, then it moved to 6 months and now LO is 7 months tomorrow and we are still going. I LOVE it and don't want to stop for some time yet, even though it doesn't work very well when OH wants to take T out because I can't express enough milk to give her a bottle. I find it strange that people have reacted in that way to you still breastfeeding - to me it seems perfectly normal to do it for as long as you/your LO likes. Tilly is very distractible these days so feeds are short, but I love the bed time feed as she usually falls asleep on me and snuggles up to me. I can't imagine stopping that when I can carry on. I will probably carry on for another few months if I can.

How many feeds does he have per day now? Tilly varies from 5 up to 7 feeds per 24 hours

I'm going back to work at 6 months so will start weening him off breast from 5 months xx

We're still going at 10months, just. My mw was kinda shocked I was still going. I'd like to do full term bf (2 years) but there's a high chance of her weaning in pregnancy.

We're down to morning, bed and through the night. X

On my iPhone - so cant see tickers :(

we are still going here at 9.5 months :) planning on stopping at a year though. i often get a shocked reaction when people find out im still feeding too.

Heya Hun, I really battled, it took C 7 weeks to latch due to tongue tie... He is now five months and I am still loving every second so I don't plan on stopping any time soon. I hope to get to two years but I tend to take it day by day xx

Just curious about this, when you say 2 years will this eventually just be a nighttime feed? Xx

Could well be a morning feed and a night time feed but from what I know some have an afternoon 'snack' too.

In Australia a lot of mothers BFd to the recommended two year period and only end up feeding twice a day past a year.

My lo is on 3 feeds a day at the moment and has beeb for a while, seems to be losing interest in his afternoon one now too so will prob be down to 2 very soon

I am trying to get my freezer stocked up to the max (who needs food?!) as I'm going back to work in July and won't be able to express at work. Once the freezer is full, I'm just gonna start rotating stock (ie expressing, freezing it straight away, and feeding her the old frozen stuff). Should work? lol xx

This is my plan too ... I have a full freezer but some stuff is 4 months old now so really need to start using it

Just feed Aaron the frozen milk for a few days/weeks (your supply is epic lol) and freeze your expressed stuff? I only have like 100oz frozen so far :( xx

As long as we all want to carry on I suppose. Weaned last at 3 yrs.
You just gt to a point where it's so part of your normal day, you just carry on lol
Also, my grandmother and her sister had breast cancer, and my nan had a benign tumour in her breast. So Breastfeeding is important to me in the respect it reduces my risk.

I'm planning on stopping at 1.

Quite frankly, I don't want a baby that is asking for boobie or pulling at my top to get to my breasts.

So to avoid the need for formula, I will carry on until 1 and then wean her off somehow. She's only had morning and night feeds now for sometime.

Thanks for all your thoughts, to be honest I think max will stop himself in the next few months, he seems far to busy to feed now the little monkey :) but I would stop at 1 anyway, like you Tor I wouldn't want max grabbing at my top and getting my boobs out at that age xxx

I´ll try to carry on as long as possible.

With my first I started expressing full time in my first week due to him being too weak to be able to drink himself and very poor guidance from mw, nurse (in the netherlands you get a nurse at your house for the first 7 to 10 days, almost for free). gp, etc. Not at all aware at the strains that fulltime expressing put on you I only managed 8,5 months (plus drug aids) untill I dried up.

With my second after many, many problems, stress and external influences we together managed 10 months of mostly live feeding. In total we only used half a packet of nutrilon (called aptamil here), so in the end we did quite well :). At 9,5 months I decided to stop taking domperidone and leave it up to my LO. Due to dwindeling supply she built down to the last feed in about 1,5 weeks. Then I started her on cowmilk and solids, which she both hadn't had before.

With my third, I'm hoping to feed for at least 10 to 12 months. Will I continue after that? Why not. It'll depend on the situation I'm in at that moment. WHO advices a minimum (!!) of 3 years exclusive breastfeeding. However, a childs immune system isn't properly developed till 6 years old. Although I don't see myself breastfeeding a toddler over the age of 2, we'll see how we end up. When I compare how often my breastfed baby's got sick (never, up to 6 months after the breastfed period) to how often their 10 non breast fed nieces and nephews got sick (constantly), it seems like an easy choice..

Eventhough longfeeding is quite common among breastfeeding women in the country I come from, my colleagues at work were astounded when I was still breastfeeding after 4 months old. My OH brought my youngest to my work every 3 hours to be fed, for about 6 months long. Then my feeding rights at work expired so I stopped working. Now I'm a full time mom at home, so breastfeeding should be much more straight forward :).
