I dont mean after all the xmas pud and booze lol

Personally I think everybody has a responsibility to be as green as they can be, even if its only small things, but thats just my opinion and I suppose everyone differs. I was just wondering really how green we all are here?

I recycle and try to use as little energy as possible ie not leaving lights on and turning off all plugs at night (apart from freezer lol) and only having the heating on low for short bursts, but we do drive a rather guzzly car

i live in a basement flat.and the recicle bins are usualyy filled with all sorts. my dad kindly takes my recycle for me.

i recycle paper but my bin got stolen and its taking ages to replace. I'd like to recycle glass but its a pain getting to one of those glass bank things. :wall:

My car is diesel so nice and green, and we recycle all our paper/glass/plastic and tins.

I use disposable nappies though and I do like my heating on rather a lot.

weve been looking at nappy servcies for when we have a baby, and theres a service round here where they deliver cloth nappies and then pick them up and deliver fresh ones once a week - all for about £20 a week!, so no washing them ourselves! it seems like a fab idea and Ill happily give it a go, but im betting after a couple of weeks I change to disposable for pure praticality lol

we do paper, tins, glass etc
our heating is not allowed on during the day
and if i do not recyle i get the talk about doing it for Braydons future from my dad

 Well done to your dad Sarah. He is spot on. All of us on this forum have a responsibility to install this into our children, if only for their own future.
I recycle everything I can and feel really guilty if I don't. I have this row with my older brother all the time. He comes up with excuse after excuse but at the end of the day he's just a lazy sod who can't be arsed.

well i recycle all my paper and tins, bottles etc, and turn off my tv at night and go ape with kids if they leave lights on, though tbh i think if everyone was made to recycle more and be more green it would be a lot better

Kudos!

It scares the poo out of me that in 25 years time we could be, here in Britain, experiencing famine and drought!!!!! How fudged up is that??

Its a massive subject, so many differing theories and opinions, but the common truth is we have to start putting things right and it starts with us. If we make energy conservation, recylcing and minimising pollutants part of every day life, our kids will grow up viewing it as normal and not just something some people do.

Hippy heathen soap box got down from :D

totally agree glitzyglamgirl, for our children it should become a natural way of disposing our rubbish. Although I do think that manufacturers have a huge responsibly in reducing the amount of packaging. If the new 'weight of rubbish' charges come in I will be leaving any unnecessary packaging in the shop and putting all my junk mail back in the post box!!!

My mum drilled this into me from a very early age. Nothing to do with being green, it was more about the cost of
electricity
But I now find myself shouting at my OH when he leaves a light on!

our car is diesel, well the main one is. I use reusable nappies (unless im away)

Totally agree about manufacturors, any junk mail we get goes straight in the paper bin but some packaging just cant be recycled.

There was fab futurama episode where they spotted a smelly ball of something plumeting to earth, and it turned out it was all the rubbish they had hurtled into space because they had nowhere else to put it, and they managed to knock it off course by firing another ball of rubbish at it. Fry said "but what about when that one comes back to earth?" and the response was "it wont happen for generations, why should we care about it?"

We are that generation!

I sometimes wonder if certain materials and ommisions should just be banned. Ok so busineses would go out of business, people would lose jobs, but the economy would recover, the world as we know it wont recover ever unless something is done now.

I have gotten more aware of being green when I became a mum. I breastfeed, use reusable nappies, try and save as much energy as I can through using the energy efficient lightbulbs, natural cleaning products, recycle as much as I can and where possible buy local produce. However I have to use my car to get to work which is 34 miles a day, 3 days a week.

I believe that we need to do more. Watching planet earth made me realise that we are just messing up this world.

I think with all the recycling insentives now put in place etc and everyone given boxes we are doing a hell of alot more than we were 2 years back! 2 years back the only people recycling were the people that bothered to go to the ecycling bins, now we all have boxes to leave outside the house we are recycling loads more.

I re-cycle, use cloth nappies and don't drive.

But I'm a heating FIEND! :?

I'm always screaming at DH. He insists on putting everything in the normal black bin.

We have a great Council system here, so there should be no excuse. We have a green bag for plastic bottles and tins, a red bag for paper and cardboard, a green box for glass, and we can also leave out bags of clothes in the green box.

I recycle everything I can, and if I can't recycle - I Freecycle!

They should give everyone smaller black wheelie bins - that'd soon show them how easy it is to recycle.

Im not all that green, but i dont really have the chance to recycle our rubbish. our house is too small to keep seperate bins for recycling and also as we live in a multi-storey block we dont even have bins, we just have a bin chute to throw our bin bags down. If we had the means to do so then we would.

Although i will be using cloth nappies when the baby comes along so at least thats a few thousand odd less nappies going into landfill. Some of the people in my block actually throw their disposables out of the window, we counted 10 used nappies at the front of the building one day  how disgusting is that?

I've stopped using disposable nappies and switched to cloth nappies. I also use reusable wipes.
I use the "energy saving" switch on my washing machine more now.
We don't have central heating - too hot in the southern hemisphere.
We have to pay for polly bags at supermarkets here ... this encourages one to take your old bags and reuse them.
One car is diesel - one car petrol.

My children are VERY aware of pollution and knows all about energy saving and recycling. I don't believe that in this day and age, with all the access to information we have, that we can still be oblivious to what's going on with mother earth! It's about time we pulled our fingers out and made a bigger effort!!! Me included.

Emilia xx
