Before I was imagining that I will only need one big, but elegant bag. Now I already have a big bag and a rather big suitcase (big hand luggage size). And I am rather worried that there is no room in it left for my make up, toiletteries or clothes (didn't pack those yet).

Are mws gonna laugh at me when they will see me arriving with all this stuff, like I came to live there?? Or is it normal?

I don't think I packed anything that I don't need... Well, ok, a roll of toilet paper might be a bit unusual, but my cousin just gave birth and said it's a very good idea - you want a lot of it, and the best quality, so it's nice and soft, not the standard hospital quality one... Apart from that, I think all the stuff I am taking is fairly normal.

What do you think? How big are your bags?

Just wondering but what have you got in there? I had 1 large bag and was in for 10 days!
XxX

I have two bags - 1 is my baby's changing bag, that has all her clothes, a blanket in, plus nappies, nappy rash cream, maternity pads for me and breast pads in. My other bag is a rucksack, and in it i have a rather large wash bag with toiletries for both me and my OH (although its not even full) PJ's, a bikini top, coming home clothes, spare clothes for the OH, my makeup (which is in two littler bags) and loads of pants.

We're now thinking of also taking the laptop as i'm being induced and it'll give us something to do whilst we're waiting

Ok to be fair my mum did bring extra clothes for me and lo during that time!

ippa, well, let me think.

My case: rubber flip flops (for the pool and shower), bottle of water, some snacks (dried fruit), a big box of chocolates for mws, pack of nappies, roll of toilet paper, wet hand wipes, face spray, my nightlie and socks, normal slippers, my husbands shirt (want to wear it in labour), some toiletteries, video/photo camera, dry shampoo, liquid soap, a big roll of cotton wool for washing the LO, 2 packs of maternity pads and 1 pack of bra pads... I think that's about it.

My smaller bag: his clothes (2 cardigans, 2 hats, 2 pairs of socks, a vest, trousers, a couple of babygrows, mittens and booties. And a changing mat. I feel that we don't actually have many clothes for the little one :(

That's it... What you think? Anything I don't need?

It doesn't sound all that much. Are you sure the bags are as big as you think they are?

nik106 well it's a maximum size hand-luggage suitcase (for Ryanair, for example) and a big ish changing bag from Mamas and Papas. I didn't think I'm taking too much stuff either. But it all adds up, you know!

what is your bag like? :)

I have the mamas and papas changing bag, so prob about the same and my rucksack fits in the hand luggage for a plane as we bought it to come home from our last holiday. I'm guessing we have about the same size stuff, i wouldn't worry too much. Its not actually masses of things

I think that sounds fine hun! you have plenty
I mean if you do get kept in (fingers crossed you dont!) for a few days then send others out to get more clothes for lo etc, dont worry about taking a ridiculous amount of them as you will more than likely not need them and it will just make it more hard work for you.
I would also just like to say good luck with it all! (i miss my bump still lol!)
XxX

thanks ippa :) I already feel that I will miss my bump!! xx

i have a mini suitcase with the babys stuff in and a gym bag with mine in, not planning on staying long lol x

lol I am the queen of over-packing (I'm the one at the airport with the giant case and enormous hand luggage :oooo:) so in a bid to be ruthless I've packed a very small trolly case for my crap and baby's stuff is in the changing bag. Have to say though the case is practically full and I still have to squeeze my dressing gown and a coming home outfit for me in there, hopefully my newley enlarged "pregnancy backside" will come in useful when I need to sit on the case to close it! x x

My bag is pretty big, its a large holdall one, would be too big for hand luggage I reckon, but it has all mine and Lo's stuff in it. My hubby has packed himself a rucksack with his toiletries, a change of clothes, a book and food and drink for him, because when I was admitted a couple of weeks ago he really struggled as he hadn't eaten all day so we realised he needed a hospital bag of provisions as well!!! Plus we want to hold Lo straightway before he is cleaned so I figured hubby might need a change in t-shirt incase he gets yukky!

I have got 2 bags.....one for me and one for LO. They are medium size 'hold all' type things. I haven't put everything in yet but think they're gonna be really full!! I am terrible at packing and always over pack, and when I think I've got all my stuff sorted someone mentions something else and I think oh gosh, I need to to get that too!!!......I had thought that I could change how I've packed and have one bag for me for the immediate things I'll need and one for LO and then keep another in the car for me if I have to stay in that my OH can get for me should I need it........haven't made up my mind on that one tho! ......Think what will take up the most space is towels.....not sure how many to take as know they will get 'messy' but am hoping to get in the pool and if I'm in and out of there a couple of times I'm gonna need at least one for that, then one for shower afterwards (likely to get messy) and then would prob need another if I had to stay!! ......Finding this hospital bag packing quite stressful! lol!!

I was worried the first time too that id be taking too much.. I had my labour bag in my boot for weeks.. Just what I need for labour and one set of clothes for baby to wear and a couple of nappies.. Had another bag in my mums boot with my clothes and babies etc for the day after.. Seemed to work well :)

From what you've said your bags are a fine size.. I wouldn't worry :)
This time I've got a diddy holdall with wheels and a pulley thing (preg brain doesn't know what it's called lol) and if I need anything else I've got people close by to grab them for me.. Only 5min drive from this hospital whereas my last hospital was a 20-30 min drive depending on traffic lol x

Bunnykins I thought husbands are given special clothes in the hospital? I saw some pictures of new daddies wearing blue hospital tops, trousers, hats and bags on their shoes (so sexy lol!).

Sounds about right to me. I am taking a 'weekend' size bag and a change bag for baby :)

Oh right maybe they do? I didn't know that? Ah I'm not gonna say anything to him tho it would ruin the surprise lol :)

Surely that's only if you have a c-section via epidural? If you are under a general, no-one is allowed in with you. I can't recall any of the birthing partners on One Born Every Minute being given clothes, but i could be wrong
