Just wondered if anyone else's maternity hospital has a bad reputation?

I'm a bit concerned about the hospital I'm giving birth in (Aberdeen Maternity Hospital) Its the only one for miles so we don't get a choice here. Last year a midwife was suspended and investigated by the police. My friends sister had a really bad birth and they didn't remove all the placenta, she went home and developed septicemia. And I'm kinda glad I've decided not to breast feed - I was in boots yesterday getting my free changing bag. Was speaking to one of the ladies who worked there and she said her sister was put home after 8 hours last week, it was her first baby and she was struggling to breast feed. She never recieved any support and 2 days later baby had to be put onto formula.

I was my friends birthing partner there 7 years ago and the care was ok.....this has always been a concern of mine but as its getting closer I'm thinking abou it more. Wish I'd had the guts to go for a home birth now.

I think that its similar in most places to be honest. I'd read some really poor stuff about the hospitals around hereand considered a birthing centre, but when I was in hospital the care was pretty good. There were some staff who were fantastic and some not so good. So it is a bit pot luck as to who cares for you!

Aberdeen is where I'm going too. I haven't heard any stories like that though, now I'm a bitty worried. Was good when i was there 12 years ago.. a lot has changed since then I suppose. I could have gone to the peterhead one but picked aberdeen instead.. I might look into this a bit more now!

Hey fellow scottish ladies!

sorry just butting in here, my friend had her baby there, she is a nurse herself and she said that the actual midwifery care she recieved and the birth were all fine. It was the after birth care she said was not good, she said all the midwives in the post natal ward were rude and ignored her, one of them threw bed sheets at her and told her to change the bed herself because she wasnt an invaild, this was 2 hours after giving birth.

hope i'm not passing on too negitive a story here but, she said because it was her first baby and she was a bit overwhelmed she didnt stand up to them as much as she should have. So as long as you dont take their nonsense i'm sure you will be fine :)
