I had my appointment this morning at the hospital and saw the consultant. He has booked me in to be induced on monday morning if my labour hasn't progressed any furthur. But I have to ring up first to see if there is still a bed available :wall: He said there could be an emergency so my bed would end up being taken. I asked him about the sweep I was supposed to be having over the weekend but he said wait until monday as he thinks I will progress on my own before then. Lets hope he's right  I just wish they would make their minds up over what to do with me :wall: :wall: I'm being told so many different things its unbeleivable.
My contractions came back last night and were around every 10 minutes lasting for 60 seconds but they still aren't painful, just really strong and tight. They wore off again and I've had a few more this morning but its all stopped again :wall:
I have to admit I'm not keen on the idea of being induced, I've heard it really hurts and is worse than labour but that could be just horror stories and people trying to scare me (mostly the MIL  ). I'm feeling a bit nervous about it, but thats probably me just being daft!
All I can do is pray that labour progresses naturally, otherwise I will just have to grin and bear induction and get on with it. On the positive side though, at least I know I will definatly have my baby by the end of next week! :cheer: :cheer:

All I can say is I hope things go on there own before you need to be induced hun but as you dont have another labour to compare it too, you wont notice the difference in how painful it is KWIM? Does that make sense!? Good luck hun!

I hope you start to prgress a bit more soon!! But try not to worry about being induced, the induction itself isn't painful but it can make the contractions stronger but like Lea says, you won't have anything to compare it to so you won't notice the difference!

Come on baby.... Get out!!! Its time to meet mummy and daddy!!

Thanks girls
Lea - Yeah that does make sense and you are so right
I'm gonna stop feeling nervous and look forward to it instead! (yes I may sound a bit mad there!)

BIG BIG hug to you.... I am miserable at 38 weeks!!!

I do not know how you still sound even a little bit upbeat!

BIG respect haha ... Tell that baby GET OUT from me!!! x x x

Labour can be more painful if you are induced but there are levels to the induction process.

First 'induction' is the sweep.
Next is the prostin pessary or gel- this is tried up to 3 times but usually works before this if you are at term or over.
Next ARM (artificial rupture of membranes)
Then sintocin (?) drip THIS is what makes labour more painful as it strengthens contrations and makes them more frequent. Often women say that they go from very mild contractions to the biggest most painful contractions in minutes and they have little time to acclimatise to the pain. An epidural is often the way to go if you are having the drip.
If this doesn't work then I preume it is C-section next although I'm sure if I'm wrong someone will correct me.

All of that sounds pretty scary, however I had an amazing birth experience and I was induced. :cheer: I had no pain relief until I was pushing baby out and then only needed G & A.

I was induced past my due date at 40+2 (although by MY dates I was at least 41+2) and it was fine- I had one dose of the pessary and it caused labour to start- I needed no other interventions so had a natural labour. If you are having contractions already I bet the pessary will be all you need to kick start labour for you. It took 9 hours from the pessary being inserted (8am) to me first feeling any sign that labour was starting (5pm) and I had my baby at 11:45pm the same day.

A friend was induced at 40+10 and had the baby within 4 hours of the pessary being administered- her body was all set to go basically and just needed a little push!

The worst part about being induced is being in the hospital for the entire labour- my OH had to go home and be called back to hospital once baby was imminent because of visiting hours.

You will be fine- Good luck- you never know baby could decide to come on its own!

Dont worry hun, soon bubs will be here and you will be thinking "god it was AGES since I was waiting for labour to start"

Sending you lots of labour dust hunni

Hope things start off for you soon hun
I had a similar thing to you where my contractions were irregular for 3 days and not very painful, and I was able to breath through them easily. I was booked to be induced but when we got to the hospital they examined me and said I was between 8 - 9 cm and as soon as I felt the need to I could start pushing    I didn't even know my waters had gone or anything. Just shows that labour is not always textbook. Fingers crossed your baby is on it's way, and will be with you soon :cheer:

Thanks girls

Flowergirl - thankyou for all the info, I feel a bit more clued up on it now, the consultant didn't really have time to explain it all to me. Its nice to hear you had a good birth experience by being induced, makes a change from hearing just bad things about it! Thankyou hun

Hi Laura, I know that you are going to same hospital that I went to, don't worry if you end up being induced, they are absolutely lovely and go through it all with you beforehand. I only needed a little kickstart and it all happened for me pretty much straightaway, sounds like you're further on already than I was when I was induced. Hope it all happens for you before though  you'll have ur baby by the end of next week :cheer: :cheer: how exciting it'll be here before you know it! :cheer:

Thanks hun  They do seem nice at the hospital but just very rushed! Hoping it doesn't take much to get me going again
