I've lived in high heels since I was about 2 years old, . I do have some nice ballet pumps now which I'm wearing at weekends but still find heels sooo much smarter for work. Can high heels cause problems when pregnant? Should I switch to flats now? I've heard all kinds of rumours, like heels "tilt your womb" etc....?? xx

I am still wearing my heels to work but to be honest I dont spend loads of time on my feet once I am at work. If I didnt wear heels then all my work trousers would be way too long!!!!!!

Sorry i dont know about any medical complications. I expect when you get a larger bump you wont be comfortable in heels.

I'd never heard about heels causing problems in pregnancy either- I just thought it would be a bit uncomfortable later on. I've been living in trainers for a while because of back problems and have only just got back into my heels today so hope this isn't true!

the last person we had who went on mat leave from work wore heals all the way through no worries.

I guess waht you might need to keep in mind is if you get swollen ankles and also as your bump grows your centre of gravity changes so you are more likely to trip, in heals this could be more of a problem.

I'm still wearing them quite happily.

I've stopped wearing mine every day but that's only because my maternity work trousers are too short to wear with heels otherwise I'd be wearing them every day. Flat shoes make me waddle!!!

I wore a pair of 4 1/2 inchers on Saturday night I I did give up after a couple of hours, they were killers though.

I don't think there's any real risk apart from the tripping as Sandi already mentioned. If it wasn't for swollen feet I would wear them up until the end and I will try my damn hardest to anyway.

I'd say once bump is bigger wearing them is a risk as your centre of gravity changes and you end up with a tendancy to fall forward or lose your balance more easily.

Also feet swell often and its blooming uncomfy trying to squish fat fluid feet into heels and then stand on them.

IIRC also something about varicose veins, but don't quote me on it.

I'd try to go for lower more solid heels as time goes on. I wear 2 inch heeled boots, but they are big solid chunky heels, and even those are hard work with bump. The tilt gives me terrible back ache

Also the image of a heavily PG woman tottering along in stilletto heels just seems wrong to me. It looks weird. And not in a good way  But thats just me.

Don't think you'll do yourself any harm wearing them, just the obvious risks of tripping, twisting your ankle etc. You'll find as you get bigger you just won't want to wear them though, your feet may swell up a bit and it may hurt your back. You'll also find you won't be able to walk as quickly.

Incidentially most women find their shoe size changes after pregnancy anyway (gets bigger / wider).

Personally I've been wearing flat boots for months now!

I'm wearing heels and have done, like you, since very early on!

Like the others have said, it'll probably cause problems with balance and I probably will change to flat(ter) shoes later on just because I'm accident prone and don't want to risk tripping over!!

Just because we're pregnant, it doesn't mean that we have to wear flat shoes, tie our hair in a bun, wear no make up etc because it doesn't look good IMO - we are who we are so if you feel comfortable wearing heels, wear them!

I read in a magazine somewhere that wearing heels can put extra unnessesary pressure on ur back, not sure if there is any truth in it though!!!

You just described me, only without the heels. I look like that without being PG aswell  I like to think I carry it off pretty well.

I've heard that heels can throw your back out. As your bump gets bigger it increases the curviture of your spine, which can then be made worse by heels which tilt your hips. I think if you already have back problems it's probably not a good idea but if you're ok and comfortable then go ahead.

As mentioned above, pregnancy also throws out your centre of gravity which means you could be more likely to fall or trip.

I hurt my back when I was 18 and it's never been the same since which is why I now spend most of my time in Doc Martins (I have far too many pairs!). I wear heels now and again - they're uncomfortable but make me feel fabulous!

i've never got on with heels really, and am quite tall so as soon as i found out i was PG i took the excuse to box them up....

i'm just a slob really, prefer a nice pair of vans or dcs any day.....

heels are strictly for bedroom antics, or when i used to take lapdancing classes...now THOSE were heels six inch spikes was 6'2" in them, needless to say they're in temporary retirement but will be returning to class once bubs is here. It was one of the most demanding excercises i've ever done...even more than climbing! and one of the most fun!....think LO was a result of a dance :rotfl:

I think mine was the result of something pretty similar!!

he he my mum, said that our baby was an act of love...

i know it was an act of filthyness

I'm still wearing heels. I am pretty tall so never used to wear them all the time but OH is 6ft 6 so I am still smaller than him with them on so I dont feel so bad.

I've had arthritis in my hips which started when I was 14 and at the time my Mum asked the doctor is it was because of the 'silly shoes' I had been wearing and he said no, if anything they were helping!

When I get bigger, if heels become uncomfortable for any reason I may stop wearing them then, plus when the summer/spring comes I prefer little slip shoes anyway! x
