Hello all

Currently on month 10 of TTC with no luck so far. I had a psychiatrist appointment recently (and got discharged back to my GP :) ). When she asked about TTC, she decided to ask my GP to prescribe me 5mg of folic acid. I’ve been taking the recommended 400ug, which I assume is 0.4mg? It seems a really high dose to jump from that to 5mg! Has anyone else experienced this? Any side effects from taking this much? Any success stories?!
Thanks all xx

No side effects. You just pee out any excess folic acid that your body doesn’t use so it’s safe inthe higher dose. I’ve been taking it for about 2 years! Good luck x

Just like Qwerty said, no bad side to taking more folic acid. I've been taking it since before I was pregnant with my daughter and never stopped. It's in leafy greens too and I feel like I don't eat enough of those. I've noticed I have a lot more EWCM and don't know whether it's the folic acid or not, but it's easier to track ovulation now.
Good luck and hope that folic acid will do the magic! Fx!x

I think taking high doses of any vitamin can be quite stressful on your body. Even if you pee it out, it's your liver and kidneys that have to process it all so it can put extra stress on your body. Why on earth is a psychiatrist prescriping folic acid? Seems odd. Surely it's better to take the regular dose and add more dark green veg. My experience of taking high dose vitamins was they made me feel stressed and drained, which is not what you need when TTC.

Apparently the normal dose is 4mg so 5mg is not much more. The higher dose is usually for women with a higher risk of neural defects or diabetic.
