Herbal teas - not good steer clear!

Raspberry leaf doesn't make you go into labour but strengthens your uterus so supposedly your contractions are stronger. You shouldn't start drinking it until after 36 weeks though and build it up slowly as its not good for you before that.

Thanks Sarah, I wasnt totally sure of the specifics, thats really interesting!

Well I know not everyone will share my opinion, but I do think some of the things on the 'what not to eat or drink' lists are a bit ridiculous. I was talking to my mum the other day, and said I was frustrated because I'd had strong cravings for things im not supposed to eat, such as pork liver pate. She said in her day it was RECOMMENDED! Liver was something pregnant women were encouraged to eat then, and shes never heard of anyone getting listeria.
Its such a shame if someone does get seriously ill, and miscarries. Its heart breaking. But wheres the line with enjoying your life and not over worrying about everything you put in your mouth?

I would take it with a pinch of salt too sarahcourtney, for the same reasons as you. . (As the disclaimer below says though)

I (me personally) agree to a certain extent with you too climbingrose ! X

I think chicken liver pate is a no no because its high in vitamin a, but I'm not sure why that's bad for baby. Not read that far yet!

Not all types of vit A are thought to be harmful in pregnancy... Although vit A found in liver is contra-indicated for now. X

You watch, in 100 years from now, they will be recommending you to smoke and play on space hoppers during pregnancy!

i have runny eggs all the time
i havr ice cream and milkshakes from amchines
at christmas i had liver pate on toast

LMAO mackmummy!

Meh, I take it all with a pinch of salt for the most part. My sister in law is from Ukraine where they are told to eat lots of liver. She's had three healthy babies lol
I've had a bit of liver since being pregnant but only when the craving when mad and only a small amount. I've also eaten sushi and would do it again!!

My mum also finds it frustrating because when she was pregnant with me she was allowed to sleep on her back and go in hot tubs. She wasn't allowed peanut butter (we are now) etc everything's changed so much.

Just be sensible and read in to why we are told not to do/eat something then weigh up the risk yourself with common sense lol

Yes! Everything in moderation, but I trust my body that it knows whats good for it! (Saying that, all it wants to eat right now is bags of haribo.. so I've had to tell it NO!) Good luck everyone.. lets hope for a speedy pregnancy! xx

I'm already drunk mummy midwife, just getting my space hopper out....

I used to drink a lot of green tea but stopped as I heard dats not good during pregnancy either as it absorbs the folic acid n has abit of caffeine in it or sumthin

Tri hopper :)

I must say I freaked out a bit reading Jo's comment about earl grey. I drink this all the time. One cup of ordinary and one or two cups of decaf a day on average. I found this useful when searching for info http://www.fertilityfriends.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=88552.0. Hopefully I should be able to continue drinking it as the Food Standards Agency say its fine in pregnancy.

As for peppermint tea, it was the only thing that kept my nausea at bay in tri one. Drank two or three cupss a day and suffered no ill effects.

I haven't found anything online about Earl Grey, I don't think it's anything other than the caffeine thing - don't worry xx

I've just started drinking these too, in the hope of fighting the dreaded bloat!!

Oh.. you've got me concerned now! The only hot drinks I drink are herbal teas!! :/

Is decaffeinated green tea ok? It's a favourite of mine because I can't handle too much milk or dairy in my diet, I also like lemon and ginger tea and peppermint tea :-) xx
