Finally managed to find 5 mins spare to get my birth story up. Firstly I just want to say I had both of my children at Stafford hospital (the one off the news) none of their services or care can be faulted they were amazing!
In my first pregnancy I was induced due to pre eclampsia so I was under consultant care this time. On the Sunday evening (20th) I had been feeling unwell with a bad head and was puffy. After calling delivery suite they booked me a daycare appointment for the following morning to check my bp and urine.
I arrived in hospital as normal expecting to be told that everything's fine and sent back home. I went up to daycare and as thought my bp was still normal however high for me and everything else was fine. However due to reduced movements AGAIN they sent me for a scan. The sonographer was happily showing us baby's parts and getting an estimated size when she asked me when my waters had broken??? This was a massive shock to me as they definitely hadn't gone in a pop like the first time. She did however say that baby could be in front of them so she scanned me from all angles and never mentioned anything again.
I popped back off to daycare when the midwife called me in straight away. She told me that the sonographer couldn't find any waters anywhere to measure. Next thing I know she's on the phone to delivery ward to discuss induction for later that day! I was then panicking I hadn't said bye to Isla at home as she was crying so badly when we left. A consultant then came over to admit me to delivery ward ready for the induction process. Whilst still on daycare the midwife checked me an I was 1cm but not effaced and she performed a sweep. They then were very nice and let me pop home to get essentials and I got to give Isla a big cuddle.
I arrived back an hour later with mum and hubby ready to start the induction. I was hooked up to to the monitor and after 45 minutes the midwife came to tell me I was having too many contractions to be given the prostin that time and thy would check again in 6 hours. So off we went walking round a hospital in the dark (very eerie) trying to start on my own. 6 hours later after we'd watched the soaps and had a KFC delivered it was time to be checked again. I knew I was still having regular tightenings so knew the outcome. Again no prostin. It was now near enough midnight so I sent Phil and mum home to get some rest as I would be checked again in the morning.
After they had left I tried to settle but just couldn't get comfy and the tightenings were starting to get painful I spent 2 hours on my own rocking on a rocking chair trying to ease the discomfort then if had enough I at least needed paracetamol. I called the midwife and she gave me the paracetamol and left me for half hour. The pain was gradually getting worse and worse so when she came back I asked her to check. I was 2cm and the remainder of my waters broke there was a circle as big as a tin that was it. She then moved me round to a delivery room as they knew I had to deliver within 12 hours due to risk of infection. After calling mum and Phil back I started on the gas and air and rocking on the chair.
At 6am the contractions were happening so bad and I was still trying me hardest to cope on the gas and air I was hooked back on to the monitor which didn't do me justice as all my pains were in my legs and hips like my first labour. Phil and my mum kept me focused on the gas and air and emmerdale lol now I know it's because the baby was in distress. However at the time I thought they were just being nice giving me the headphones. The midwife re examined me and I was still only 2cm I was mortified there was hardly and gap between them to rest. Then another midwife and a dr came in to tell me that baby was distressed and I needed fluids via a drip so another dr came to hook the drip up which never happened as she couldn't find a vein. Apparently my hand was purple and pulsing as she was taking so long. As it was now a different shift I had a new midwife who was amazing never left me I was pleading for her to get me an epidural but they couldn't in case I needed an emergency c section. 10 mins hadn't even gone by when the dr came back in fully in scrubs telling me I needed an emergency csection. I was still holding on to the gas and air as I signed everything.
The csection itself is a weird experience phi had gone off to get his scrubs on. As they moved me from my bed to the theatre bed it was noted by the dr and midwife there was what looked like meconium on my bed but as I had no waters to break they never knew. I was I. Agony at this point and the feeling of relief once that spinal block had been put in I cannot even explain was amazing!! Next thing I knew Phil was next to me and the screen was put up. They didn't tell me they were starting it was so relaxed in there between me as Phil we were just talking and then we finally heard a little whimper the midwife then explained he was being looked at due to meconium. It was the best sound ever! Within the op I lost a lot of blood so was on watch to see of I needed a transfusion after but luckily just iron tablets! One of the funniest things was the screen falling and Phil seein everything. They also commented how there wasn't even a drop of water left so they must have been leaking for sometime!
Looking back I did say a few times to the midwife that I thought I was leaking to be told it was discharge so mother knows best
