Morgans not well and Im getting really erratic readings thanks to his ear wax. I just got 38.4 and want to know if you can get false high readings or just fase low. He def has a temp cos he feels hot to touch but Im not sure whether to believe its that high.

He was sick in the night and it was different to the refux sick cos he was wretching and it was loads, I had to give him a bath. Other than that hes drinking his milk, sleeping and gave me some little smiles athough he is generally miserable. Oh and his eyes are full of tears, kind of looks liketheyre sore.

I hate this I never know what to do for the best :(

I just googled  Im worried now, Id need to dig my car out if we go see the doc :/ he got a snotty nose so Im fairly sure its just a cold but Im worrying a bit too and letting my imagination run away with me!

You'll know what to do with practice (this is what I keep telling myself) have you got another way of reading temp? Like a mouth one, cos if the readings are that high, you may wanna take your LO to the doctor. Poor little bear! And then at least try can prescribe you something or advise you. Xx

hmmm forehead strip in lighting the 37 and 38 dot. thats progress on last night when the 38 was showing and I could see the outline of the 39 :faint: I think calpol must be doing the trick. I think im panicking cos Im tired from the bad night.

I take it a couple of times in the same ear and move it slightly each time. You have to angle it to get a clear view down the ear cannal! Hard in babies and toddlers. AJ's 2 and I still havent perfected it!!

You can use a ear thermometer under the arm, to get another reading.

Hope LO is ok, I'd probably pop him to the Dr just to get him checked. Even if its just to put your mind at rest.

yeah id monitor his temp. but if ur worried get digging xx

Hes napping now so Im on the sofa in my PJs with a blanket over me. The Tv just told me it feels like -10 degrees out there, so Im not keen to go out!

Why don't you give the doctors a ring for some advice. Save's trying to dig out just yet and might be a bit more reassurance. I'm sure there's lots of people needing medical support and having difficulty accessing it today. Hope he's feeling better soon!

well i just took his temp 3 times and got; 35.5, 37.0, and 36.5.

I think hes a bit better, he doesnt feel so hot. def gonna keep an eye out for him today and if hes still poorly this afternoon Ill ring the doc.

he woke up a bit grizzly, doesnt feel hot tho. he had his milk and was grumbling so I got his bedtime bear and dummy and hes snuggled up and gone to sleep in my arms. Im less worried now as hes drinking him milk and hasnt got the temperature anymore.

:( He got a temp of 38 at 6pm so he had calpol then and was fairly contented. He had his bath and wast fussed over his milk but I got him to take most of it in the end. Put him to bed as per the routine buthes bawling his little head off up there with OH. Hes so bunged up but its right at the back of his nose and I cant get to it. Hes coughing too, but I think thats just cos hes crying so much. Im clock watching til we can give him more calpol at the mo.
Ive noticed hes grabbing his right ear a lot too so off to see the doc in the morning incase its an ear infection.

Heres what Ive done so far;
nasosal drops up his nose
Boiled a kettle in his room (for the steam)
put Karvol on a flannel by his cot

I dunno what else to do, any suggestions?

Oh no :eh: OH's eh?
My OH jumps for the calpol if AJ starts to whinge  (he only whinges when something is wrong) but then asks which bottle it is? Needless to say 9/10 he doesnt need calpol and OH gets a telling! :wall2:

Have you raised the head of his bed? It may help.
When AJ was really poorly and bunged up the Dr advised to slightly open the window so there was some fresh air circulating, just a very slight breeze (not blowing a gale  ours is double glazed so just lock it on the next catch) - though maybe not such a good idea with this weather!

Good grief, you ought to buy shares in calpol, I think we'd go through a bottle a day if we gave it whenever the baby whinges!!

We've had a very sleepless night :(

put a folded towel under one end of his matress to raise his head but bless him he was sooo congested. Up at midnight so I gave him his milk and he fell asleep in my arms so I didnt end up giving him calpol. Then he was up at 2am and I gave him the calpol then and nasosal drops, he drifted off but woke every 10/15 mins until 3am when he was screaming his head off, he was so bunged up he could barely breathe and he was really scared by it. Up until 4.30am then slept until 7.30 :yay:

He felt very hot at 3am even though his room was 16 degrees :faint: (window was closed  ) this morning he doesnt feel hot at all, typical, cos we've got the doc at 10.40am. He'll probably be right as rain by then!

I am officially a zombie today, so Im off to get showered and have a strong coffee!!

we're home again. the doc checked his ears chest and tonsils and theres no infection so its definately viral and only in the upper respiratory tract. Phew. Hes got some calpol on prescription. Doc told me to give him 5mls but Ive only been giving him 2.5 and its bringing his temp down so Im not gonna up the dose, but if it stops working Ive got the flexibility to give him another 2.5 after an hour.

 Just realised I didnt say AJ doesnt actually get the calpol!

Hope LO's doing ok and sleeps well tonight.
Glad you got him checked out and he's not got an infection. Poor thing hope his virus passes quickly.

I get the sleepless night, AJ had me up too. Must only of got a couple of hour myself.

ah no I didnt think you let your OH give it to him. :)

We were up at midnight for a feed as he couldnt drink as muich during the day, then he woke at 3.30 very congested and I couldnt get him back to sleep for more than 5 mins. He got a nosebleed at 6am and I freaked out and woke OH up. Hes fine today, I got loads out of his nose this morning and hes sleeping really well. No temperature either today so I think hes a lot better. PHEW!

Hope you got more sleep lastnight! :flower:
