Help with horse racing?

I want to put a bet on the gold cup but I just don't understand any of it. Can anyone help?

Choose a name of a horse that's racing that day at a bookies and ask them to explain the odds, I never understand it either!

Always bet on Number 6, unless its a grey horse then go for number 9.

Actually just looked at the form I would place a bet on number 6 and number 9 . think I will do when I go out later
