My LO is 8 weeks old and so far has been exclusively breastfeed. Although i am not planning to go back to work for a while i have a meeting with my boss next week so thought i would express some milk so that my OH could look after and feed the baby whilst i went to the meeting.

My OH has struggled upto now with settling the baby, we put it down to the fact that i am the only one feeding her which is causing me to bond more and make LO feel comfortable. So we thought introducing a one bottle of EBM would help her bond with OH.

My OH tried to give LO her first bottle feed yesterday and she just cried & cried, as soon as i held her and tried to do it, she took to the bottle straight away. We tried the same thing today and again she wouldnt take the bottle from OH but did from me. He isnt doing anything different to me.

I feel bad for my OH, it is really fustrating him. He gets annoyed and upset that she is differentiating so much between us. Does anyone have any ideas on how we can get her to take a feed from OH?? :?

Hiya,

I never give Asher the bottle. I always get hubbie to do it when we're using expressed milk. So he doesn't have the option.

Once we went a month without giving him a bottle, and when we tried again he screamed and screamed. But we persevered and gave him one every night for several weeks. Gradually he accepted it more and more and would take a little more milk from it each time.

So my advice is just to keep going trying a bottle every day or every other day. And don't give it to your LO yourself. She needs to associate you with the boob and your other half with the bottle.

I know this won't help with your meeting because there probably isn't enough time. But you never know. After a few days your LO might take to it much better.

Hope it all goes well.

awh hun i completly sympathise with you.. edwards the same with alex..it might be a good idea to carry on.. or the other thing you could try is cupfeeding? let the baby lap from the cup with her tongue, another trick with the bottle is to get ur OH to seringe some milk into her mouth so she has the taste for the milk.. and then try the bottle..

melissa wouldnt take a bottle at all when she was 8 weeks. tried again at 5 months with formula and shes fine- my boyf, my mum, my dad, my sister, me- she not fussy

idk what to suggest tho- maybe try him holding her while u hold the bottle- or u hold her while he holds the bottle- see if shes ok with that- and then see if he can feed her while u are right there so she can see u- then move away gradually? not sure if that'd work im just guessing. good luck
