i have never managed to get the hang of expressing milk, have no idea why... in the early days i expressed 2-3 times a day but could only ever get a max of 2oz (that's in total from bothe breasts) it was kind of disheartening, so i stopped after a while and now whenever ruben needs a bottle for some reason i have to give him formula (say if i'm going out or...)

i even bought an electric pump, thinking it would be better but it was just the same, if a little less tiring on the hands... still could only get 1oz off each breast, and that's after a heck of a long time faffing, switching boobies, squeezing them and generally anything else i could think of.

the pump has been gathering dust for a month or two, and i decided to have another go just now, as ruben lost interest after just one breast before dinner and the other one felt really full. so there's milk there, and loads of it, but....

...once again i could only get a couple of oz. grrrr :wall: and i still have one limp and one full(ish) boob...

WHYYYYYY??????

it's as if my boobies know it's a pump and not ruben... i usually have a very fast let down and can literally hear it squirting into ruben's mouth, even the boob i'm not feeding from usually squirts like mad when ruben is latched on the other one - but with a pump it just doesn't happen...

i'd love to be able to get 7-8oz in a sitting like some do, so i can have a full bottle to offer ruben before bed instead of the formula, and maybe save some in the freezer too. i now have (after an hours effort) a pathetic little 2oz bag of milk which i don't know what to do with as it is nowhere near enough for a bottle for ruben.

WHAT CAN I DO????? help me please, what is the magic trick i'm missing?? i've tried warm flannels, massage, visualising ruben at the breast, i try to relax etc...

Maybe the pump? I let down with the mini medula, but when I bought a Boots one I didn't :? You're doing everything right, don't be disheartened

Some women just can't express much, but still bf really well as a baby is more efficient than a pump.

No tips that I can think of but sending you hugs

You should try expressing while you are feeding the little one, I get more this way. Or look at photos of your baby so you get a let down as thinking about the little one. In the morning time we make more milk so you might be able to get more then? This does not work for me but my friend gives her baby one boob for a few feeds then expresses of the full one. Even when I have not feed Oliver all day I still only can express 4oz from each boob!
