I bought my summer ball dress (first year university) from Dorothy Perkins (huge store on Oxford Street....they had a fair selection of them actually) and cost around the £50 marker. Bought my final year ball gown from Debenhams (gorgeous but the price increased dramatically!). My second year I swapped with a friend (hehe we were skint students!) and didn't go in the 3rd year as I was on holiday at the time.

I also think you'd grab a huge bargain on E-bay and can always re-sell for just about the same price you buy from on there!!
