Is it true that if you get alot of heartburn the baby will have lots of hair?

I haven't had any heartburn yet, does that mean my baby will be bald? :(

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

That made me laugh. I think it's just and old wives tale but............. I've had pretty bad heartburn, does thatmean I'm having a little hair ball?

Alex xxx

I had heartburn and Becky had a full head of hair. It's falling out though so what does that say :rotfl:

With my first a had mild heartburn and she had a small amount of hair, second had it again but she had nearly no hair and with my son i had really really bad heartburn and he had quite a bit but not loads - so i think if you're gonna get it you will - i think there is some truth in it.

Hey old wives tale or not I had the most painful consistant heartburn imaginable when I had my DD!
She was born with the most hair on her hair I have ever seen on a baby lmao! She had a fringe and I could put a bobble in her hair if I would have wanted too!!! Seriously! Im not even exagerating! lol

haha! made me laugh to!

Ive never had heartburn in my life until i was pregnant i wouldnt say i had it badly but it was still a pain and my son was born with a right mop of hair!

Infact the midwife told me just before i started pushing when she checked me . lol she said "christ this one has alot of hair!!" i found that extremely funny at the time...cant think why  must of been all the drugs!

i had heart burn with both and my first was completly bald. I had 'more' heart burn with my second and she came out alittle more hairy, but not loads.

i had heart burn with all mine and i had 2 hairy monkeys and 2 baldies :D

Hey I googled, they did research and found that there is a link!!

Background: Folklore can originate by detection of actual associations between seemingly unrelated events and perpetuated through oral tradition. The objective of this study was to determine whether a common pregnancy belief that women who experience a lot of heartburn give birth to newborns with a lot of hair is accurate.
Methods: Sixty-four pregnant women ranked the severity of their degree of heartburn during pregnancy. Independent coders rated newborn hair volume using 2 photographs of the infant's head, taken shortly after birth.
Results: Most (78%) women reported some degree of heartburn. Symptom severity was unrelated to fetal sex and maternal characteristics including parity, age, or weight. The simple linear relationship between heartburn severity and hair volume was significant. Categorical analysis by severity score and hair ranking revealed a similar association.
Most (23/28) women who reported moderate or severe heartburn gave birth to babies with average or above average amounts of hair, and conversely, most (10/12) women reporting no heartburn had babies with less than average or no hair.
Conclusions: Contrary to expectations, it appears that an association between heartburn severity during pregnancy and newborn hair does exist. We propose a shared biologic mechanism involving a dual role of pregnancy hormones in both the relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter and the modulation of fetal hair growth

my mum said she had lotsa heartburn with my younger sister who was born with a thick flock of black hair! i hardly got any heartburn at all, and melissa did have hair but not very much- she's almost one and her hair is still like bumfluff

I had really bad heartburn and D hardly had any hair! I was really surprised when I saw him because I was expecting a full head of dark hair :D

i had realy bad heartburn and Caitlyn had loads of hair when she was born 3 weeks early

Thank's for the replies girls. Looks like I will probably have a baldy, although there is still time for heartburn to come on, not that I want heartburn though. I suppose the amount of hair she has isn't important at all, aslong as she's healthy that's all that matters.

Exactly jodielou. and trust me, you really dont want heartburn
