Heartbeat?

Hi Ladies,

After what feels like months (well has been all of 2 mths!!) of waiting I'm finally seeing the midwife tomorrow and am beside myself with excitement!!

A quick question ....is it usual for the MW to look for a heartbeat?? I'm so excited and really hoping she will but don't want to get too excited over something that might not happen!!! Also, I guess tomorrow is when they'll take my bloods?

I SOO can't wait to have some further confirmation other than all the usual symptoms (tiredness, sore boobs, sicky & 4 tests) that I really am coming up 11 wks preg!!

She won't listen to the heartbeat as it's too early. The first MW appointment where this happens is the one you have around 15/16 weeks. The heartbeat can sometimes be found from around 9 weeks, but you have to hunt around for it and it can't always be picked up, and I think that's the reason they don't do it until later so as not to worry you unduly

As for what else will happen, it depends - at my booking appointment I was just asked loads of questions, there were no medical checks or bloods taken, they were done when I went for my dating scan. In some areas the MW will take bloods and urine samples at your booking appointment though, so it could go either way. There was no physical examination at all, just lots and lots of questions (some are quite bizarre, such as 'is the father a blood relative' !)

Hey, I never had two seperate appointments (a booking in and a dating) I only had the one so at my first appointment they took urine, my bloods and did the scan and showed me its little heart beating, didnt get to listen to it though!..and they asked me all the questions oh and also checked my weight and height

My 12wk scan is next Friday (30th) close enough (9 days!) but I'm getting more impatient each day for the magic 12wk date + scan!! I'm looking fwd to offloading some worry, seeing the little bean, and being able to finally come clean as to why I'm growing stouter!!!!!

But I guess tmrw at least I'll get a much better idea of appointment datelines & where I'll opt to have little bean in August! I'm soooo looking fwd to the "is the father a blood relative" question (not!)

SNAP Loopy Loti!! Mine is the 30th too It's dragging isn't it?? I'm dying to see little one and hear it's heartbeat! I just want to know everything is ok!!
What time is yours? mine is at 11.10 I seem to be counting hours and minutes down at the moment!
I had the worst bladder ever before getting pregnant so I dread to think what I'll be like hee

Oh sorry never answered the original question!
I got asked all those million questions at my first MW appointment (are you marrying your brother/cousin/uncle etc ) and had to go to the hospital the same day for my bloods taken (MW refused to do it because my veins are sooo small ) I was told at my next appointment which is next Tuesday she would try and listen for the heart beat! thats when I'll be 11+2! But she did say it wasn't guaranteed to hear anything but she would try! Seems dependent on areas to what you have and when. My friend in Newcastle had to wait til 20 weeks to get her first scan! No way I could go that long! hee
But fingers crossed I'll hear little beans heart next week then I might relax a tiny bit!!
