Hey ladies!

I heard my baby's heartbeat today and it was so lovely that I still feel a bit choked up thinking about it now haha...

ANYWAY - I heard an old wives tale that the sex of the baby can be determined by the heartrate of the baby...does anyone know anything about it? I know it's only a bit of fun but I'm not finding out the sex of the baby so a bit of speculation is always welcome :0)

The heartrate was 148 bpm...

Hey hun, I have bought a doppler and have listened to the heartbeat which sounded like a train :D ..how do you measure the bpm?

some of the dopplers show you the bpm on the screen, aswell as you hearing it..

you must not have an lcd 1 hun..

i've got 1 and i can hear it and see what the bpm is!!

the old wives tale is ''if its over 140 its a girl, if its under its a boy''

when the midwife did mine it was in the 130's (in the 14 weeks stage) - when i asked her about this tale, she said there is no truth to it.. and then when i used mine last nite it was 162 (i am now 16 weeks) - so it differs..

i have also heard the ''if it sounds like a train its a boy, if it sounds like a galloping horse its a girl''

mine does sound like a train..

i went onto ''youtube'' and typed in baby boys heartbeat - and listened to other peoples heartbeats of their little boys..

and did the same for the girls and i think there is a difference between them both and mine does sound like the boys..

i find out in 9 days so i shall let you know if theres any truth in it :)

Awww it is lovely when you hear their little heartbeat isn't it?! Don't blame you for being choked :D

According to old wives tales anything over 140bpm is a girl and anything below that is a boy...but it can be wrong  girls are stronger than boys and generally do have faster heartbeats.

Hey hon, did you manage to record it? If so, I just timed 15 seconds and counted the beats during that time then multiplied it by 4 (that's how they told us to measure it at school so don't blame me if it's wrong!)

I mean it's only a rough guide but ours came out at 138! - Another sign its a boy

I didn't want a doppler that measured the heartbeat as I'd give myself heart attack with too much information!

Hey, I had given up trying by the time I read your reply..I really dont work well with technollogy :rotfl: there seems to be a little corner of my brain missing when it comes to such tasks!

But this weekend..I am going to try and record it and do the whole multiply by 4 thing that you suggested :D OH is home so he can help :D

Im so damn nosey, I must find out the sex. i am like Clueso just now

I am really itching to know whether I'm having a boy or girl, but we have agreed that it'll be such a lovely surprise if we don't know so I'll have to wait until the big day!

I have just been checking out the mothercare website for nursery sets and I am so excited about buying all that kind of stuff.

Now I've heard the heartbeat and know that Im healthy and my bloods were good etc I really feel a lot more excited about everything and like I can start enjoying it now.

Yey!!

You know what? I dont know about guessing the sex by the heartrate.. but I'm gonna have a stab anyway and say.. I think it's gonna be a BOY! :D

Holy shizzle ... mine is somewhere well above 170! I get 172 by using 15 seconds and 180+ using 20 seconds.

I'm secretly hoping for a boy as DH already has a girl and I'm not into pink or dresses or make-up or playing dollies. I'd much rather be kicking a ball, playing with lego and picking up broken toy soldiers! Knowing my luck it'll be a girl!
