Hi

Just wondered if anyone has had or is having these?

I have noticed mine increasing so I have them everyday, is this normal? It is like my heart is racing or out of synch. I can deal with it and not bother the doctor or midwife if it is all part of the pregnancy, but just wondered if anyone else has them/had them and what advice they have had.

All replies would be gratefully received

thanks girls

Hiya hun, I used to get them b4 I was pregnant and have found I get them more often since I have been. Some days more then others. Dont know if its normal or not and was going to ask my MD next time im there. Like you I can deal with them as im used to them but have noticed that im getting them more! x

I don't know although I found that I got a lot more after drinking caffeine (plus more besides) so I've totally cut it out now- apparently it affects you twice as much when you're pg. Could that be affecting you?

Hi

I used to get these every few months before I was PG and now I get them every eve when I get into bed, normally if I've been racing around before hand.

I'm consultant lead due to being Hypothyroid and mentioned this to them, they checked my heart and said they would keep an eye on it but it might be my medication?

I think they do say this may happen more often during pregnancy as you are producing more blood to pump round your body. I would mention it to put your mind at rest

Heart palpitations are quite normal during pregnancy. Many women have them. Your body will usually settle back down once baby is here.

FWIW I had them prior to pregnancy, through pregnancy and still get them now. Its often stress/diet or tiredness related. With the extra work your body is doing now PG palpitations can be a side effect.

I had tests run when I was PG due to having palpitations prior to pregnancy etc (otherwise my GP would not have worried about it) and all was fine. The Consultant said that up to 3 per minute was acceptable and they would only do something if it got more than that. Do the math on 3 per minute in a 24 hour period and its quiet a lot  If you are only getting them only a few times an hour or day then I'd really not worry overly but just mention to your MW if you feel they are getting too much.

Hi Girls

Many thanks for your replies, they are all re-assuring.
I think I might mention them at my next meeting with the midwife (week 22)

On average I have one coffee a day. I drink tea but its de-caff. I also dont drink much coke, just fruit juices whilst I have been pregnant.

Mine are also happening more at night.

Apparantly these are very common in pregnacy, can be to do with being aneamic, I would next your MW next time you see her/him or if you want some reasurrance just give MW a call x

I get them too (but them have them normally)......they just seem a little worse now Im pregnant!

Hi, I also suffer with these palpitations. It started when l just had my second child, just over 19 months ago- l for no reason started having a racing heartbeat. So before leaving the hospital l had an ecg put on and nothing was picked up. A few weeks later l had a heart scan and one of those monitors you have to press when you have a palpitation, but typically, l had nothing and scan was fine. I have since been suffering palpitations on and off since. But more recently l had them again, flutters and irregular heartbeats that l had been suffering also since coming out of hospital and thought l had best go to the doctor, also l am pregnant again so that may be one of the reasons it might be a little worse than normal. So l am having to cut out on caffiene this week to see if that makes any difference, sofar l have not had many palpitations, but im not entirely convinced its to do with the caffiene. If you are worried or curious, you may be best going to the doctor to get checked out. Sorry l seem to have babbled on a bit here, but thought it might help you a little. l was quite concerned about them, but then again l do worry lots!
