Since friday my hayfever has officially begun!! I am sneezing, itching, rubbing my eyes - all of the joys - and was wondering if anyone knows if we are allowed to take anything for it? I cant put up with another 2 months of this!!!!

Modern hayfever remedies ie clarityn, zirtek, benedril etc are not known to be safe (or unsafe) during pregnancy (never been tested). Although Piriton is thought to be safe, i don't think it's ever had any trials but its been commonly used for so long that i think they work on the "nothing bad reported yet" idea.

I suffer from really bad hayfever and for me the benefit outweighs the risk. I take piriton as and when i need it, which is most days at the moment. I also use the nasal sprays and eyedrops.

This is my 3rd pregnancy and during the previous 2 I have tried all the complimentary therapies, honey daily, homeopathic stuff etc etc and none of them worked.

xx

My midwife suggested i ate local honey as a natural remedy, haven't tried it yet though so don't know if it works

 Got the same problem  and been worried about what to take....GP told me the same as above..no trials have been done that he knows of but most remidies say consult your GP if pregnant.. :wall: :wall: So still really suffering..blocked nose, sneezing and all the horrible stuff.

Looking forward to hearing opinions on this topic that might help also....Thanks for posting it.. Lv Yvonne xx

I asked boots the chemist and a phar-macy what i could take if anything, all they said i could have was vaseline any size one it dont matter. im using the lip one cause it was on offer at the time lol.

they said not to take any hayfever tabs as it could harm baby. something init i think,

i have to apply the vaseline lip therapy under my nose above my lip so it locks in the pollen. I find the green one soothing as it contains aloe vera :)

how come phar macy when put together comes up with do not click in caps?

I get really bad hayfever too and asked the doctor the other day.

She said the only things definitely safe to take are Beconase (which is the nasal spray) and allergy eye drops like Opticrom - tablets haven't been tested so they shouldn't be used...

Hope that helps

Jx

I can suffer quite badly with it. I've had accupuncture to rid me of the symptoms (completely safe for you and baby) and no medications involved. The relief is completely wonderful. Highly recommended from me!! I know it's more expensive than a box of pills but the results last ten times longer so all in all it's worth it.

I went to the doctors yesterday with this, went about a month ago and got given some tablets and was running out.

He gave me a prescription for Beconase nasal spray and said I can now take most over the counter tablets and recommended Piriton as it had been around the longest and had more studies done on it but I would recommend you see your GP too honey.

You have my sympathies as I am suffering really badly too and want to scream :wall:

You can also try rubbing the Vaseline inside the nostrils, again, this will act as a barrier to the pollen entering your system.
