Having waters broken - what to expect?

I'm having my waters broken on Friday (if nothing happens before) as I'm already 3cm dilated. Does anyone know what I can expect to happen? Will I go straight into painful contractions? Does it make for a quicker labour?

Usually the contractions will just start, no more painful than when you go naturally (from what I found anyway)

with james i had my waters broken when fully dilated as they didnt go on their own.

with logan they were broken when i was 7cm as i'd been in labour for almost 24 hours but still having irregular contractions, it made the contractions closer together but not much more painful. i felt relieved because i could tell it had helped. things moved much faster after

both times having the waters broken didnt hurt at all, just felt a bit uncomfortable
