Really enjoyed it. It lasted from 11am - 3.30pm with about a half hour for lunch and a couple of tea breaks.
There were 7 couples in total and everyone was really nice. The lady running the course was fab.
Did quite a bit. Firstly the group was split into 2 and one group was given paper and pen and told to make a list of things to do with labour and birth, and the other group were told to make a list of things regarding once the baby is here. We then swapped and added to it. Then the ladies were spilt from the men. The men had to do up a list of what to do to be prepared for when they get the phonecall that labour is happening / they need to get home.
The girls had to do up a list of signs that labour is starting.

We were then shown how to do breathing,..this was fun as it meant we got to use bottles of kiddies bubbles :)
We also did different birthing positions and massage techniques for the birthing partners to do.
She went through the stages of labour, if its a straight forward one. We also talked about pain relief and induction.
She also went through a worst case scenario labour. So induced labour with every pain relief under the sun and then forceps and if that didnt work etc. it was just a way to show us what could happen.
Then there were other bits about how you can naturally try to induce labour, the research behind them etc.
At the end she read a lovely birth story of someone who did one of her classes.
Have to say we both really enjoyed it :)
We have a two session on Tuesday evening which will talk about the difference between midwife led deliveries and doctor plus midwife led and the different hospitals in our area

I'm glad you enjoyed it! We start ours next saturday, I wasn't sure what to expect so its good to hear others experience. x x x

U will love it! I didnt expect to enjoy it so much but it was actually great fun

Ooh I'm really looking forward to mine, still another 2 weeks to wait! I cant get over the fact I'm 32 weeks today, it makes it suddenly really close when you start thinking "less than 8 weeks!"

I know what you mean! Got a shock today when in the class of 8 couples theres only one couple due before us! Really brought it home!

You know what else? Really realised how much I have learnt off this forum! Anytime the leader asked a question or asked for ideas etc, I found myself knowing the answers or suggestions in my head!

I was worried that I would be like the dunce in the corner but I think your right we do learn a lot on here!!!

Can I ask something daft? I've got my NCT course booked for the beginning of Dec. Is it full of the to posh to push sort. Just wondered if I'll feel out of place you know me being common an all.

Not like that in mine at all. All very down to earth and happy to just go with the flow of labour and see where it takes them :)

Lol thx, someone once said it full of ladies who lunch. I'm pretty down to earth and can't be doing with over competitive snobbiness. I have no airs and graces, this is a grace free zone hehe.

Im exactly like u hun, cant be doing with people who think they are better than me. But honestly they were all lovely and on my wavelength and can see myself staying in touch with ladies. OH also really enjoyed it and got on really well with the other guys... they were all as clueless as each other

Yours sound like really good fun :)
I had my first antenatal class today aswell but mine wasn't brilliant although I did find some of it useful, I'll put up a pist about it later or tomorrow.
Lol I saw your thread and thought 'hmm I wonder if she was at my class!?' lol but then I see your from kent and nowhere near me lol

We did both the NCT and NHS antenatal classes and found both helpful! NCT was more in depth and laid back as only a few couples and much more time to cover stuff and just chat about worries etc. 3 of the couples in the group have had their LO's now and myself and the other girl are still waiting! .....I was a bit worried about snobbiness too but everyone was really nice and we are still in touch............got a post natal reunion planned for Dec 3rd!

Hope u enjoy the rest of your classes as much as the first, def think it's worth it! xx

Have our next one Tuesday evening and Im actually looking forward to it! Normally I hate those kind of class style things, as Im not a very outspoken person and u generally get a couple of people who tend to #take over# but this isnt like it at all
