Well I phoned up my surgery after waiting two weeks for my blood test results ( I had them done on 15th and then had my scan on 21st) and the results are 'two are normal and one has come back with low levels' but she didn't say what....?
Don't really know much about PCOS only what I've read online as I'm seeing my doctor on Monday- so if someone had PCOS and it comes back low levels what could it be? Testosterone, Progesterone? X

I don't know hon I'm afraid - not very helpful info to give you! My pcos diagnosis from my bloods was because my testosterone is high and my lh/fsh are not in balance. Hope that helps. When are you seeing the doctor? Ask them to talk you through the results and don't leave until you definitely understand everything! Xxx

I'm seeing my doctor tomorrow so I shall definitely be questioning him and finding out more. I shall let you know how I get on :). Thanks for the info tho xx

Just been to the doctors and was told that to help me conceive with PCOS I will have to go on the pill for 3 months without a break- he went into details about stopping the wrong hormones from working in the hope that the good ones as such start to work so that when I come off the pill I should ovulate. Hoping that I get my bfp this week so I don't have to start the pill :(. If i do go back on it then I will be leaving you ladies for a while as we can't ttc whilst on it :( feeling very sad ATM.

X

I don't know much about these things but I thought they usually gave clomid if not ovulating. Hopefully other ladies with PCOS will be able to offer more advice xx

Yes they try to push this on you but in reality it rarely works. The pill can make PCOS worse. What were the blood test results? My oestrogens were on the low side of normal but it stopped me from ovulating

He just said to me that my blood results show along side my scan that I have PCOS. Just feel lost :(. I was expecting him to suggest Clomid but he didn't- he said if the pill doesn't work then metformin would be my next step x

Is there anyone you can get a second opinion from? Is this your GP or a gynae? If its a GP, I would ask to be referred to someone more specialised this this field x

Metformin can help sometimes, didnt in my case but i have heard success stories. Tbh i would ask for a referral, how long have you been ttc?

Been ttc since end of jan/feb this year but only had 6 cycles. I think he's a gp. Going to ask for a second opinion I think- personally if I ovulated on the 21st like I think I did then I'm going to have a 35/37 day cycle so it's not like I'm not ovulating at all- going on the pill to me seems silly because I'm then stopping ovulation completely when my body is capable of doing it just not as often as it should. I saw a female doctor last time I went and she said that is her field- she sat an listened to what I had to say etc and seemed like she really wanted to help me- he didn't go into detail about my scan, my bloods or really listened when I tried to tell him I think I ovulated on the 21st an could be expecting period this week. Do u think it was right that he's suggested going on the pill for 3 months solid without a break? X

It is a tecnique they sometimes try but tbh i regret wasting time on the pill. If you have classoc PCOS, its unlikely to help. Metformin in my opinion is worth a go if you have insulin resistance. I didnt so it didny help me. I would go back to the other doctor and get a second opinion. They shouldnt prescribe clomid without checking your tubes. If you are coming up to 1 year ttc, ask for a referral

I don't have any of the classic symptoms of PCOS other than irregular periods- I'm not oerweight- I'm 5.3 and just under 9st ( he said normally I would say to someone to lose weight but that not the case for you) - I'm not sure if I have insulin resistance as he didn't say ( really disappointment as he didn't really give me muh info at all and I had no knowledge of what to ask etc) - will see if af arrives or I get my bfp off Friday and then book an app to see the other doc next week x

I have heard of the pill being used in this way and when you come off it you get like a rebound super fertile window, I wonder if this happened to me with I had my daughter. I have pco (but not the syndrome) and always had irregular cycles yet when I came off the pill I got pregnant the second month trying. If you have time on your side perhaps worth a try? Xx

I had none of the classic symptoms yet my periods were irregular. After coming off the pill it got worse.
I would insist on referral if i were you, i wouldnt want gp dealing with it(unless they specialise).

Yeh that's what I'm going to do! Thank you for your advice! I'd be lost without this place x

Hon - I echo completely what the other ladies have said. You need to be referred to a specialist. Most GPs don't have a clue when it comes to pcos. The first gp I saw laughed at me when I said I thought I had pcos because according to him I didn't have any of the symptoms. I actually have pretty much all of them apart from being overweight.

I firmly believe - and it is just my opinion, I am not a doctor - that the pill is really harmful for pcos because it masks all the underlying issues. If your hormones are all out of whack how can putting more hormones in your system be a good thing?

If you have been trying more than 6 months and have a known fertility issue, you are entitled to a referral under the nice guidelines.

Good luck, let us know how you get on xx

That's exactly what I thought. I am ovulating on my own and my cycle pattern seems to be have a cycle miss a cycle so therefore having 6 cycles in 12 months- if I'm on the pill for 3 months then technically I'm missing out on two ovulations that my body would do naturally like it has been doing the last year- in the doctors words so hopefully I ovulate on my own which I am doing but I just need a kick start where I miss a cycle x

Hi sorry you're having all this trouble. I'm no doctor but as others have said, I wouldn't go on the pill. My SIL is having an issue and they found a cyst so she was put on the pill to hopefully get rid of it so I have heard of this for cysts but not pcos.

I myself have only been ttc for 8months but I know that it has been the pill which has ruined my cycles. They had always been too frequent yet I still had symptoms of ovulation. After stopping the pill my periods stopped with them and I am not ovulating. As I was diagnosed with pcos long before I started ttc I knew I had an issue an so my GP referred me straight to the fertility clinic.

Metformin can help but I thought that was usually if you were overweight as I think the insulin resistance is connected.

Have you tried soy at all?

I haven't no- what's soy meant to do?
I'm just frustrated because to me it seems silly going on the pill to make me ovulate when I come off it when chances are I'm going to ovulate once or twice in 3 months anyway- if I only have 2 periods a year and say putting me on this would make me ovulate a third time in that year then that would make sense so it seems silly to stop me ovulating twice to make me ovulate once when i come off it- hope that makes sense lol!
I started periods at 15 and went on the pill at 17 and only had about 10 periods naturally before I went on it- was on it for 3 years and now been off it for nearly 3- came off it in the April and didn't have a period til the sept so worrying the same will happen x
