I have always been really lucky and had great teeth and gums. But since becoming pregnant I now have pregnancy gingervitus. I'm told my gums are acting as if I have lots of plaque so they are overreacting by swelling and bleeding. Nice eh?! I have to see my hygienist every 3 months to monitor my gums because it's such a severe case. In one instance I have a gum which has protruded quite a bit. The hygienist today was concerned it was an infected growth so has asked me to see my dentist. I've read up on gum disease and pregnancy and I'm concerned if it is infected this could affect my baby. Does anyone has any experience with this?

My gums aren't great at the best of times, but are especially rubbish during pregnancy. However last pregnancy and this pregnancy it doesn't seem to have affected anything other than my mouth. 40+6 today so definitely no pre term birth! X

I am the same, in both my pregnancies I have had bleeding gums, this time has been even worse than last time but my baby is fine and I am 40+1 so no pre-term labour here either :) xx

Thanks ladies, that's good to know. Sorry you're suffering too, horrible isn't it. Xx
