You girls are going to hate me. Really sorry!
Last night, after O refused to get off the boob for 3 hours, boobs aching & basically during a very emotional meltdown I decided I was giving up breastfeeding, that I was a shite mother & was just going to mess up continuously.
This morning after very little sleep, myself & O woke up & had a cuddle. I realise now it was probably just hormones but it was horrible feeling like that.
Anyway, O had a feed this morning about 8:30 & has really dozed on/off since then. I've offered him the boob the few times he's woke up but he's more interested in sleeping right now. I'm assuming that's ok.
Because he was sleeping my boobs are so full, painfully so. Tried a shower, tried hand expressing, hot flannel but I couldn't get any milk off to get relief. I seen the express pump lying in the corner of my room & decided it was either try that or force O to wake & he looks so peaceful.
I didn't expect it to work really but I got 1oz off each boob! In 1.5 hours. I had intended to start expressing when supply was established because with me being by myself I really need O to be open to taking a bottle also. Should I freeze this milk? Dump it? Try O with 1oz in a bottle? I didn't expect to get any & now that I have I have no idea what to do with it.

Big hugs hun. We have all been there! And don't worry about asking questions I don't know about anyone else but I like answering if I can help.
Not sure how old LO is (a week or so?) I wouldn't try to express much hun as it will just lead to oversupply problems. I would freeze it as I wouldn't introduce a bottle too early. People talk a lot about nipple confusion but I think it's a really inaccurate description lol - it's more like nipple anger! They get frustrated as they have to work harder to get it from the boob and my LO ended up refusing the boob and I now have to exclusively express xx

& how long until my nipples stop hurting? I know that's like asking how long a piece of string is but I need light at the end of the tunnel.

Don't ever worry about asking questions love we're all here to help each other!

The exact same happened to me Spencer was spending hours at the boob the first two days and I was totally engorged. Please please don't be offended but is he definitely latched on right? When my Midwife came out on day two I told her he was on for hours at a time and she said they should never be on that long if they're on right and getting enough. Turned out he wasn't latching on right and wasn't getting enough.

Before this I had a complete breakdown and said exactly the same as you it was also the lack of sleep!

When your Midwife comes get her to witness a feed and she'll tell you how you're doing.

I swear it gets easier x

Thanks clairey. I got the midwife to witness a feed on Sunday & she said we were both great. He normally only feeds for 15-20 minutes. Last night was the first time he was doing it for hours.

Sounds like a growth spurt hun they have one at a few days old and then another around 10 days old it feels like they are always on the boob.

Your nipples will get better just use a nipple cream and air them as much as you can.

Also sounds like the baby blues have well and truly kicked in, i have spent days crying over baby but things are slowly easing as i learn to except and adapt to my new life.
