Hi Ladies,
Hope you are all ok?
My little Harry has started to develop an issue when he is sleeping at night and sometimes through the day that is causing quite a bit of worry.
When he is asleep he starts to make a funny grunting noise and then he holds his breath as though he is in pain but he doesnt cry and he is still asleep and this goes on for a good 10 minutes then he will stop and start again after a while or sometimes it is just a one off or sometimes not at all. He also goes red in the face.

Just wondered if anyone else has experienced this with your little ones. I am going to speak to my health advisor when she comes round on Thursday as well.

Wind? Cooper does it all the time in his sleep mainly from around 4ish in the morning  Not too sure about the holding breath but the grunting and going red Coop def does. xx

Thanks Keli, How do you get him more settled, is it just a case of winding him again??

With Cooper its all bottom burps so if he looks like he's really struggling then i'll either rub his belly or cycle his legs or hold them up over his belly. If hes still bad then i will pick him up and pop him on my shoulder to see if theres any wind to come up. But sometimes he has a grunt pulls hes legs up has a bit of a bash around then settles again so i just leave him xx

If he's holding his breath and going red in face is he not having a poo? Or he could be warming up to having a poo sometimes it can take Coop a hour or so to actually get it out!

Tally grunts all the time when shes just waking up, i thought she had a stuffy nose and maybe its kinda that but i reckon its jsut her waking up.
she also squeaks in her sleep or makes funny noise, and she will also sometimes cry (just like one breaths worth) then be fine and asleep, i reckon its her dreaming!!

Going red in the face, my friend worries about this a lot but Tally does it when shes about to cry or if shes doing a poo

Everything you've said sounds normal to me, it might be worth seeing if its wind or it could jsut be him sleeping etc, you'll soon learn if hes uncomfortable or not.

Grunting is perfectly normal in new babies. They usually grow out of it within a couple of months. They make all kinds of strange noises when small.

Galen used to do it all the time especially at night. Grunted and thrashed around. Sounded so loud and pig like  Its not wind related usually.

If it is wind and you've burped him and he's gotten it up then if its wind from the other end he'll have to pass that on his own. You can help him but letting him move around and lift his legs up over his body gently, but tbh babies guts are still maturing so this kind of thing will continue to happen till its matured (around 12 weeks or so).
