Does anyone know the answer to this query?

Due to my low blood pressure, I got up for work this morning and promptly passed out :(
So I rang in sick, coz to be honest, the health of me and bubs comes before that stoopid place.

My shifts dont help either..was on nights all last week, and earlies this week..my body doesnt know where it is!

Anyway back to the case in point:- I rang in and the person in charge said " dont make it pregnancy related, just ring in sick"

We have a sickness policy...8 times in twelve months and you are sacked....I had to take a sick day for pregnancy reasons a while back and got a letter to say as it was to do with my pregnancy it wouldnt be counted in my number of sick days.

Now the person I spoke to this morning said "If you DO count it as pregnancy related they wont count it now, but will add it on to your sick day count when you return to work after maternity leave"

EH??? How can they justify that? Its pregnancy related....pregnancy... not post partum, not just sickness.
Is this person misinformed or can it be true?

Just wanted to know if there are any bods out there that can answer this?

Lifted this from the government web site. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/WorkAndFamilies/DG_10026556

Discrimination and pregnancy
It's unlawful sex discrimination for employers to treat women less favourably because of their pregnancy or because they take maternity leave. Such treatment includes things like:

trying to cut your hours without your permission
suddenly giving you poor staff reports
giving you unsuitable work
making you redundant because of your pregnancy (you might still be made redundant for other reasons)
treating days off sick due to pregnancy as a disciplinary issue
Your employer can't change your terms and conditions of employment while you're pregnant without your agreement. If they do, they'll be in breach of contract.

And this
http://www.workingfamilies.org.uk/asp/employer_zone/e_fs_maternityleave.asp
Sickness during pregnancy or at the end of maternity leave
If the employee is sick during her pregnancy and the illness is not related to her pregnancy (e.g. she has a sprained wrist), then she should be treated in the same way as any other employee who is ill.

If she is ill with a pregnancy-related illness (e.g. pregnancy-related high blood pressure) and there is more than four weeks to go before childbirth, she should go on normal sick leave in the same way as any other employee who is ill. Note though that an employee cannot be dismissed for having a pregnancy-related illness, and any such absences must be recorded separately from sickness absence unrelated to pregnancy.

If she is absent from work due to her pregnancy during or after the beginning of the fourth week before the EWC, the employer can automatically trigger the start of maternity leave. However, this is at the employers discretion. It is considered good practice not to trigger maternity leave for the occasional day off in that period.

If the employee cannot return to work at the end of her maternity leave because of illness she should be treated as back at work and on sick leave. She should comply with your normal sickness procedures

 thank you!
