Neither of us want to get married in our home town in England but we do want to be near enough that we can invite some people.
We also want to keep it small (my family is huge and i really dont want most of them there!)
So we've decided to get married in Gretna Green next year, its only just under a two hour drive from our home town so its not too far away and it has the bonus of being able to keep it on the small side!

I've been looking around at websites and we quite like the idea of getting married at the mill forge then having a sit down meal and a little reception there in the Mill hotel. It would be for about 70 people all together and it comes in way below our budget too so i get to have more freedom to choose a dress etc :D

Has anyone had or been to a Gretna wedding? Anyone been to the Mill forge or the Mill Hotel? It looks lovely online but id love to know if anyone has any real life experience of it.

Im not sure about the Mill Hotel but Gretna itself is lovely :)

We went to look there for a lot of the same reasons as you...and it is really nice. We looked at christmas time and it was just beautiful!!

We ended up getting married in a local village church, but both say that although it was an amazing day, Gretna would have been a whole lot less grief!!

If i thought my mam and dad wouldnt kill me we would just get married here in Budapest and not tell anyone until it was done :rotfl: But i guess being the only girl means i have to at least give them a wedding even if its not this huge awful thing i know my mam has in her head lol.

Thats why Gretna seems like a good idea :D

We thought about getting married there too, but I really wanted to get married on Christmas Eve so it was just so much easier for us and close family to gert married more local.

We got married at Linlithgow Palace which was just as romantic and had a lot of character in our photos. I'm glad we did it there but would still have loved Gretna Green. xxx

Hi my sis was married at Grentna 11 years ago it was a lovely place and great day but cant remember the name of the hotel we stayed in

We got married at the Mill Forge last July (2006).

The staff were amazingly friendly and helpful, the venue is beautiful, the rooms are magnificent... need I go on?

We had a fabulous day with just his parents and all other wedding parties getting married on the same day (one couple with about 15 guests and two couples with just a few guests) thought it was great too.

If you would like to see my wedding photos:

The official ones are at the start, the mobile phone pics are towards the back!

Good luck whatever you decide to do and have a brilliant day!

xx

I got married at Gretna Green, we did it traditional and eloped  We got married in the Little Cottage with a roaring open fire and candles lit, it was february and gorgeous.

We stayed at this hotel and the meal and service were fab and it's only about 20min walk / 5 min drive from the Blacksmiths Cottage
