Just to let you know that its Grandparents day this Sunday.

Thought i'd let you know as it was Calums grandparents who told us yesterday and i didnt no about it so checked it out last night and its true!

Thanks hun, I knew it was coming but wasn't sure when. Tbh tho I dont know how I feel about it - I know it'll be nice go give my parents a gift but at the end of the day it's one more expense thats not needed iykwim

I bought my Dad a card from Luke. He is the only Grandparent he has that really bothers with him so I thought it would be nice. Matt's family don't bother and my Mum isn't here :(

Yet another pointless day dreamt up by the card companies to sell more cards...

Mind ... it will be Grandparents day this Sunday for us... because both sets of DH's Grandparents are over from Finland, and with DH parents (now grandparents) and my parent we are going out for a big grandparents meal... but only because one set of grand parents flies back on Tuesday :D

to a degree I agree with you,I don't think that the card companies have comeup with this day out of the goodness of their heart ad I hate the occasions like teacher day, secretary day etc (I also think valentines day is a commercial waste of time too) but I think its good grandparents have their own day. A positive relationship with their grandparents is so beneficial for a child and Seren will love making a card for her grandparents. From a personal pointof view I can buy my grandpa a card, him and my gran (who sadly died in 2002) were there for me and my sis after our parents died and I don't know where I would be without him,so I am more then happy to buy a card to celebrate having my fab grandpa.

Seren's nursery sent out information about volunteering to be a grandparent, they wanted grandparents to go into the nursery to spend time with the children, read to them etc.

i thought that too, and had been about to type something about american over-commercialisation, but then i googled 'grandparents day' and it was actually started by age concern in 1990. so i have less of an issue with it now. but i still won't be buying cards or making any comment on the day.

I've got a card for my parents from Sprog - they won't expect it (and I'll probably be in trouble!)

It's normally advertised everywhere, but I really had to look for a card in Clintons - they were hidden away, and only a couple to choose from...

Already done, the USA's grandparents day was a few weeks back :)

And my Dad, well he wouldnt know what day of the week it is let alone the Grandparents Day thing!

I'm quiet surprised by the replies left with it basicly being a pointless day or waste of money, do you not like Mothers Day or Fathers Day then?

I feel that having a day to take the time to remember these people wether it be Mothers, Father, Grandparents in the living or the spirit world should be a day thats memories are made or re-lived as people seem always to busy in there daily lives today to say the simple words of Thank you, I love you or Thanks for what you do.

We shall be giving grandparents cards and present and also lighting candels for the people that are no longer with us and take flowers to the head stones of the family members that have been buried and remember the good times.

We hope you have a lovely day however you choose to spend it.

Sorry I didn't mean to bring the thread down... I apologise... But I still hate the card companies milking money out of what should be a good and kind idea and charging a small fortune for cards... I hate receiving mothers day cards unless they are home made... I hate the commercialism.

.

We do this at Samhain (Halloween)... Specific day to remember the loved ones who have passed every year regardless of who they are or what relation :)
