Went to see my GP today and we have agreed that my OCD is getting the better of me and I am finding it quite hard to deal with so going to see him again in 3-4 weeks and we will seriously discuss going back on some medication.
I do not want to go back on to the combination I was on before as it made me like a bit of a zombi so will probably only go back on to one to start with and see how I go, the one of choice will probably be Amitriptylin, has anyone been on this whilst pregnant and at what dosage?

I have not been on it while pregnant but have been on it in the past - personally they do not agree with me and make me feel like I am in a bubble. However it is not uncommon for amitriptyline to be used in pregnancy.

They will set you off on the lowest dosage possible at first I would imagine as being pregnant can have an effect - i.e side effects (even if you have taken them before) and then increase as is needed.

If you NEED your medication please take it. The doctors would not give them to you if they were not deemed safe to take in pregnancy.

Good Luck hun x

EDIT: Sorry amitriptyline is a tricyclic not an SSRI

Miss loving the edit! You sound like me sometimes I sound like the bfn book the book doctors use sometimes with all med info on it.

Hugs Rachael! You're defo better off on your meds if the OCD is getting worse.

I would probably be brought up to the maximum dose which I beleive is 150mg, this worries me!
I was taking Amitriptylin, Escitalipram and Qutiapine and after looking in to it I think that Amitriptylin would be the safest bet as I have read that SSRI's can increase the risk of spontaneous abortion and Qutiapin is a newer drug which has not had many studies done against it.

I was prescribed amytriptyline when TTC, only a low dose though but I guess it was a drug they could increase if needed...

Could you not start on a lower dosage? Sorry i don't know much about it xx

LOL Pinky I think it's just our history and enquiring nature! I wanted to know everything about what they were making me take! xx

Rachael it would be rather irresponsible for a medical professional to put you on a high dosage from the word go whilst pregnant! They have to build you up from a low dosage and ONLY use the dosage nessissary(Sp?) to deal with the issue. Plus putting you on such a high dossage after being off any meds for a period of time is dangerous!

I think you may be getting a little ahead of yourself worrying about dosage etc and this will make you more anxious which will make your condition worse.

Before leaving the specialist who perscribes your meds make sure they answer all your questions to put your mind at ease.

I have never heard/read that SSRI's are linked to spontaneous abortion...I would be interested if you could link your source....

I know a few girls on here have been perscribed them and I certainly don't want them to worry about something like which has not been proven or even stop taking them which could be dangerous!!! They are classed as one of the "safest" to use during pregnancy.....

Maybe a stupid question...but is there not anything else they can put you on that they know is safe in pregnancy xx

Not a stupid question hun! Problem is they can not do studies and trials on pregnant women so the data for all drugs used during pregnancy is limited.
The older the drug the more it would have been used therefor the more cases they can build up for them which is why Amitriptylin is the drug of choice as it has been around for so long.
But they can not actually safe 'It is safe in pregnancy'

I have not had chance to read the links thru propperly as I am at work - however I will read with interest when I get home! Thank you!

At a glance DWS (the first link) is a blog...although he mentions studies on SSRI's he does not actually link his sources! Anyone can start a blog! Personally I would rather go off medical journals and my own doctors advice than a quack in india!

Unfortunately not everything on the net is true and some is just scare mongering....look at the blogs and even some news sites stating that the flu jab causes abortion!

I am a little concerned that those links will cause worry and stress to pregnant woman on these boards or visitors who are looking for answers after there doctor has perscribed these tablets to them!

Think about how much you are worrying now and think about inflicting part of that one to another pregnant women who will not take the medical advice off their doctor and trained health professional and will come on to a forum asking people who have prob never been touched with severe mental health issues before there advice!

I by no means want to scare anyone that is not my intention and anyone who has concerns should be following them up with their gp like I am, I am simply asking for peoples advice which is what forums are for.
It is not just based on what I have found online, my psychiatrst gave me a print out of legal medical case notes which state it in too.

I know plenty of people who've been on Prozac and other SSRI's who've had healthy babies :)
