Good evening :)

Me and my SO are looking at booking our last peaceful getaway before baby is born in November. We have both booked a fortnight off in September (after holiday season so its less busy and less expensive) but i will be 28/29 weeks pregnant and i know that i will need to take my notes and a GP letter but was wondering what it is like flying when pregnant. Obviously i have said i dont want to fly any longer than 2 and a half hours tops and i dont want to go somewhere that will make me too hot to enjoy it but its just how uncomfortable i might be on a flight that is a concern for me and part of me is just considering going to Cornwall or somewhere which is in my country but is an 8 hour drive just so if anything does happen or if flying is really uncomfortable i can manage and can stop at service stations for a walk and a wee!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated because im at war with myself as to what to do haha!

Thanks :)

I would look up the price of very comprehensive travel insurance for flying when you’re that far gone as that may make your mind up for you lol

I’d rather a 2 hour flight pregnant than 8 hour drive :)

Have you considered jersey? Lovely place with a really short flight

An 8 hour drive is a long one, obviously I don't know where you're based but by the sounds of it a there'd be loads of lovely places closer to you than Cornwall and tbh that time of year you can't guarantee weather anywhere in this country

I had a long weekend away at 27 weeks and the 2 1/2 hour drive was even tough to be honest. I couldn't have done an 8 hour drive at all. Like Shep says in November here not much is guaranteed weather wise. I'm not sure where you are but in November maybe a log cabin type trip?

As to a flight the only real place close ish for decent November weather is probably the canaries which is more like 4 ish hours. Personally I wouldn't feel comfortable to fly in third trimester, it can get hard really fast, but it's up to you. Xx

Edit September I meant!!

I wouldn't drive for 8hrs, for sure but only recently drove 2.5 (33 weeks pregnant) and it was OK, I was the driver. Personally I wouldn't fly abroad at nearly 30 weeks pregnant, you just never know.

Perhaps take a trip to a local travel agent and see what they have available. September weather in UK should still be nice x

I’m due in November and was about to book myself a holiday to Spain in sept but decided not to. Wasn’t sure I’d cope in the heat and plane journey. Plus waiting in airports. I opted for a three night break in a lovely hotel with pregnancy pamper package! Plus my Hubbie gets to go play golf. Perfect x

If you're having a fit and healthy pregnancy I see no problem in flying in September. Of course, if your doc says so. I'd much rather a flight than any drive.

Just be sure to wear flight socks and get up and move about regularly.

Wherever you go enjoy it :)

I'm also due in November and have time off in September where we were considering going away. We decided to do a cheap week abroad in June instead as I've been very lucky that I've been so well so far but I know that could change hugely by September. As it's our first, it's all brand new.

Really like Liz's spa weekend idea though so that's going on the list of ideas :)

I flew at 26 weeks no problem with being uncomfortable. I also had no problem with travel insurance, all they asked for was that my midwife was informed and happy for me to go. It didn't increase my insurance premium either. I went to France and Switzerland, so not too far (and in Jan wasn't hot either).

We also went on a UK break when I was 35 ish weeks, about 2/3 hours away but we did go in the direction of our hospital (which was nearly an hour from home anyway) so we weren't that far from there. As long as there was a bench to sit on I was fine.
