What's everyones opinions on going on hol when pregnant? My midwife told me not to fly after a certain time and to be cautious of dvt so to wear flight socks if I do. If we are going away it'll be somewhere like lanzarote so flight will be 4-5 hours from n.ireland I think. I'm still paranoid though that people will say its not safe, you've better things to spend money on etc. I already have a LOT of money put aside for baby and their things which will be added to every month anyway so thatll def not be a problem. I guess I'm just worried if its safe even though midwife said I could! Has anyone else got a hol booked? xxxx

i think if you have saved for a holiday and also saved for baby then go for it - obviously after making sure its safe etc. I had read you shouldnt fly after 26 weeks but then read elsewhere that some airlines would take you up to 36weeks!!!!!!!!!there would be no way on this earth I would be flying anyway at 36 weeks lol

Hubby and I have have had a few days away just after I found out I was pregnant down to Sheffield and Essex and I was looking at gettin a weekend break away in the UK as we had planned our hols abroad for mid September xx

How far gone will you be?

I don't see any issue if you are happy to go away?

On a sidenote we went to Playa Blanca in Lanzarote last year not expecting much and it was wonderful.

Wish we could have a holiday this year? Work scheduling would mean I can only really do September and that would be too late for me (if this little bean stays put that is!)

I'm 11 weeks so realistically it would have to be quite soon! I received a payment from work I wasn't expecting so that will be enough to buy all the babys stuff. And apart from that my wage isn't bad so I think itd be easy enough to save for a few months to go away!

Its just been a very tough time since my last miscarriage and I think itd be lovely to go away before the baby madness begins lol.

Did you find lanzarote expensive? Xxxx

I think if you are happy to go and can afford it then you should go - why not hey??

Everywhere with the € is expensive hun

We spent probably about £600 in a week (we did eat out every evening, plus have a few drinks every night but we were self catering so had breakkie and lunch in our aprtment) It was well worth every penny though!

xxxxxxxx

We are considering going away, the omly thing stopping us is hubby's work schedual. My MW said that I should be fine to travel, to take into account DVT and dehydration. I always wear flight socks as I used to have to travel a lot for work.... If you feel comfortable hun then go for it and enjoy!! x

We went on 2 holidays while I was pregnant (not heavily though). I was very sick and almost cancelled, but shockingly enough the excitement of the holiday made me feel much better. Go for it

As far as Im aware its perfectly safe anytime during your 2nd trimester, but they dont recommend it after that. A wee bit of sun and time to relax will do you and lo good and be great for you and oh to spend some time together before lo is born, so I say go for it! Your finances are nobodies business but your own and if you're happy to spend the money on a holiday then why not! I kind of get fed up with people going on about saving money for the baby, really they only cost as much as you let them. Half the things people buy arent necessary! Anyway, sorry rant over. Enjoy your holiday if you decide to go, Lanzarote has some lovely parts to the island and plenty to see and do! Have fun!

I have a wedding to goto in Jersey in September, its my brothers wedding and I will be 34 weeks!!
I would hate to miss it and the flight is only an hour. On BA'a website it says they let people fly with a Dr's cert until 36 weeks. Think I will leave it till a bit nearer the time to book my flight and see how I feel. I wouldn't have a problem with flying in tri 1 or tri 2 though!

Hi, havnt been on here for so long, life just takes over.....anyway me and the oh went to Thailand when I was 13 weeks, 1 hour flight from Scotland to London then 10-12 hour flight to Bangkok, also had a few internal flights! Had absolutely no problems at all! Lay on a lounger, Soaked up the sun and read lots of books, was fab! Just go for it and don't care what anyone else says. Enjoy your hol together before 2 becomes 3! :)

I'd go hun, if you feel up to it then why not x

Hey Hun ,

I went on holiday to turkey when I was 5 months. We did think about cancelling the holiday but am so glad we didn't I just spend 2 weeks relaxing by the pool it was just what i needed. I did speak to my midwife about flying while pregant and she advised metro wear flight socks.

Xx

hey hun i would go for it, i went to turkey when i was 14 weeks pregnant with my 2nd baby MW just told me to wear flight socks for dvt and move around as much as possible when on the plane!!

was also told the do's and donts when it came to food and drinks etc

no ice in drinks, no ice cream as its usually made with goats milk which is a no no in pregancy, if you can find home made stuff liike walls lollies?cornetto in th eshops they will be fine! milk is usually goats too so avid that

avoid salads as they are usualy washed in there water not the bottle stuff, no food like kebabs that have been cooked in the open and things like that

only bit of advice i would offer though is dont put the socks on till ur on the plane as they kill you!! i did it befor i left the house on way there so with travelling time in airport and gettig there etc my legs had been well n truly killed off lol on way home i did it on the plane and felt much better :) xx

have fun on ur hols xx

thanks for all your replies ladies! Before I even mentioned it to oh he suggested we go over to England for a long weekend and I think anywhere would be good for a wee break :) so even though it might only be a half hour plane journey looks like we will get our break somehow!can't wait xxxx

I went to Spain at 6 months, flight crippled me and I ended up in hospital on arrival back to uk with suspected embolism. Def wear flight socks, I didn't. Wouldn't put me off flying again but I couldn't fly more than 3hrs in one go due to swelling all over and the lack of space was very uncomfortable :)

Go, loads of people go on babymoons and the second trimester is the best time to go so enjoy. It's a special trip to have with your OH ahead of becoming parents with no time for each other.
I've just been to Hawaii, 6 hours flight for me and my midwife said to wear the flight socks and drink lots of water so you need to pee a lot which will make you get up and move around on the flight. Check if the airline you book with have any pregnancy rules, mine let me move to an isle seat so you have more leg room or if there aren't any kids on the flight they might give you the bulk head.

I went to Miami/New York when I was about 13 weeks pregnant.

I wouldn't do it again tbh. The flight was awful, I got a nose bleed that wouldnt stop and dehydrated. I spent 5 days in NYC moaning that I was tired and wanted to sleep much to my OHs annoyance. I didn't want to do anything really. My legs hurt, feet were sore and I was mostly miserable. I enjoyed the Miami bit as it was just sitting by a pool and relaxing.

Lanzarote however is a whole different scenario. If you are just goig to relax and not get up to much it will probably be fine I'd imagine.

We're booked to go to Lanzarote in May, all being well I'll be around 16 weeks pregnant then.

I went to Portugal at 20 weeks and didn't have any problems x

I was wondering about this .. not a holiday a flight to go home to see the parents in N ireland, its on;y a 30-40 minute flight, so I guess that wont be too bad.

God I'd love to go away on holiday!

DH is taking me away for a spa day/overnight stay in Edinburgh at start of April - can't wait
