what would you say is best?

I have my last anti natal tomorrow. The midwife said she'd give me a date for the hospital at this appointment in case i don't go in on my due date which is sunday. Now i don't know if to beg and cry for a quick hospital date from her and then once i get to the hospital beg them to induce me asap... The usual wait here is hospital appoinment 1 week past your due date then they give you a date to be induced a further week on if nothings happened.

But apart from getting very impatient and wanting to meet this baby, suffereing with water rentenion and not sleeping etc... i'm thinking should i just try and hold out. I wanted the whole drama of my waters going, grabbing my bag and rushing off to the hospital... it's probably more exciting in my head than real life... but then again i'm thinking that might never happen and i could still be sitting here in 2 weeks time...

I thought things where happening on saturday nite/sunday but now nothing... should i take maters into my own hands and demand to be induced (get it over with) or hold out for the real thing?

I don't think they'll induce you unless there is a reason for you to be induced.

I would hold out and wait for things to happen naturally if I were you. If you go over and need to be induced then so be it.

They'll over you a membrane sweep if you go over before being induced as that often triggers things for women but not necessarily so.

I've been induced twice.

Given the choice I would rather start off on my own because:

When your body is ready on it's own it hurts less (apparently)
You get to stay at home, and have a relaxed start to labour.
It's more exciting, I do feel I missed out on waking my OH up in the night cos I was in labour!
I'm sure they said induced labour have more chance of needed interference later, eg forceps etc.
If you are induced you can't have a water birth (at least not round here)

ive been indueced once (coz baby in distress) and had two natural labour startts.

put it this way there is NO way id ever agree to be induced again.

i started on my own an the whole experience was so exciting  my sil had to be induced an had complicatons not sayin this happens all the time but i would prefer to go when baby ready!
x good luck.

i should really just stop moaning and let it happen when it happens... deep down i know thats for the best... just fed up...

thanks for your replies

yes stop moaning and let nature takes its course!
you do know you'll be telling me to stop moaning in october when i go overdue ! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

My MIL was induced twice & had a natural labour & she said the pain is alot worse being induced because your body doesn't have time to get used to the pain.

The only reason I was induced a week after my EDD rather than wait 2 weeks was because of the SPD & that I was in so much pain & couldn't sleep etc. glad i didn't wait another week Jamie was big enough as it was

See what they say at your next appointment hun & i'll keep my ningy's crossed for you that your bub will come early

budge i can't wait till october... you know i'm going to be in 3rd trim bugging you...

I hope I go on my own next time. I was induced with Ava and couldn't eat during the induction and was confined to the bed hooked up to monitors. Everytime I had to go pee(often!!), I had to unhook myself and my DH had to wheel the IV stand into the bathroom. From the start of the induction to Ava's birth was like 41hrs.

Not much longer for you, good luck!

I went into labour on my own and that bloody hurt! I didn;t/wouldn't be induced jst because I would want to stay at home as long as possible, and also, the excitement is great!

I was induced and it was HORRIBLE!

I had the same thoughts as you when I was pregnant with Charlie as I saw the consultant at 39 weeks after a spell in hospital with high protein/BP which settled down AGAIN (was in for a week at 33 weeks) and wanted to beg to be induced but he went through my notes, said eveything was fine and that was that. As we left the room the nurse gave me a date for the hospital unit to go for an assessment and induction date should I go overdue which scared me to death!!
I did everything I could think of at 39 weeks to bring things on.....seems the Stag Dynamite Hot Chilli and a 2 mile walk before it did the trick the night before my due date and little Charlie arrived on his due date of the 23rd April (although I was given the drip as my contractions slowed down which is the same stuff as used for induction...my god were the contractions painful :x )
My advice would be plenty of walks (I pushed myself even with SPD), spicy food and maybe a few cuddles thrown in as well just for good measure!!!
Good Luck and dont get too stressed about it!

Never been induced but have the say one of the most exciting moment in my life was when my waters broke, iam upset it will not happen again with this baby.

I would try and wait for baby to come by its self
