I was finally given Gasviscon on Monday- TONS of it! Jacob is supposed to take two sachets, but I can't even get him to take one of them. We have tried all kinds of methods and he refuses to swallow it. He starts gurgling it and either coughs it up or swallows it by mistake, but he screams the entire time and it takes a long time to calm him down again after. I'm supposed to do this with every feed?! This might be a great treatment for bottle fed babies, but it is terrible for breastfed babies. I'm lucky if I can even get him to take 5mL of it, nevermind the 30mL dose! He has now been upset for 40 minutes. This is NOT better than the reflux. He gets so worked up sometimes that he throws up, anyway. :/

Have you tried giving him in via a syringe?

Yes, and in all different positions in his mouth, but he just blocks it somehow, or screams so much that he can't swallow. :( It's torture for him and I don't think it's worth it. I'm disappointed because of how everyone says it makes a new baby!

we use gaviscon for summer but she is bottle fed though, its worked wonders for us, there must be someone on here that breast feeds that has experience of this that can advise you - good luck x

connor hated it too :( we persevered and eventually he started drinking it, mixed with water, from a cup.

i'm guessing you've tried just giving 1 sachet? dilute it with double the amount of water?

So far we have only been giving him one sachet, but he won't even take that. It has been a week of stress for all of us. :( I can try to dilute it twice, but if he still only takes half the dose, then he will only get a quarter, if you know what Imean.

Bah, gav didnt work for us at all. So dont feel to disheartend, it may not make a difference for you either.

Apart from syringe feeding it, I woudlnt know what to do either...

Go back to the Dr's and say he wont take it... or have you seen a Pead?!

Last night my husband tried to give him a BIG bottle of expressed milk with the gaviscon in it and he still wrinkled his nose and pushed the bottle away, then started crying and gagging. We had to dump the whole bottle. :( I hate wasting breastmilk. I haven't seen a paediatrician about this yet. I'll need to talk to my GP again.

I would go back to see your GP babes. There are other meds that can be prescribed that might suit your lo better.

Don't give up you will find something that will help.

Let us know how you get on. xxx

Both of mine has gaviscon for severe reflux and it was rubbish! It does nothing at all apart from make them more sick, by the time they had faffed about and then screamed and worked themselves up they were far sicker than if they didnt have it.

I know it sounds bad hun but they do grow out of puking. Morgan hardly ever pukes now and he is piling on the weight now finally.
